I thought Norris and Pinto were offensively Centers
Having Danault is just good for OTT, he plays top 6 until Pinto is ready for that role and Danault will slot perfectly on the 3C with defensive mission
I don't "disagree" here but several things to consider :
- Norris and Pinto are not offensive centers, they are 2-way centers. Norris should be the best offensively (TBD % of healthy Ryan Kesler) but Pinto could be Selke level, while providing good offense (TBD % of Patrice Bergeron).
- Danault turns 29 y/o next season, 6 years takes him to 35 y/o. Most NHL forwards decline in their early 30s. The last 3 years of this contract is potentially a significant overpayment at 6.0 per season
- Norris, Pinto and Danault would be a pretty good center line but still lacking that clear #1 Center
- Could have kept fan favorite and fireball JG Pageau for the same term but 1 M$ less. Everybody know he wanted to stay.
- I really can't see Melnyk approving this contract
- I'd sign Danault 3 years at 6.0 though but like I said at the beginning, not for that 6 years term.
