probably would still take more those are 2 awful contracts and seattle has no need to be in the position to have bad contracts already unless they get some serious young talents apart of the deal

Seattle can literally grab Mcdonagh for free in the ED if they want to so why would they take Johnson for only a late as hell 1st?

I wouldn't say it's a cap "dump". McDonaugh would be their captain and number 1 d for the next few years. Yeah he is owed almost 7 million for 5 years but I think any team would take him based off his performance this year. He could be bought out in the last year or two of his deal if he drops off. And Johnson can play 3c or top 6 winger at a hit of only 5 million. Both guys bring leadership and experience which is what Seattle needs.

Tampa could protect McDonagh. By allowing Seattle to pick him they toss in Johnson and a 1st. Multiple teams will be in the bidding to take Johnsons contract, the asking price to take him won't be as high as some most predict IMO.

A bidding war to grab Johnson? He has 3 more years at 5M$, his production has been on a steady decline for four straight years and he holds a 20 team NTC (Full NTC was until June 15th but maybe with the delayed season this date has also been pushed back). He can decides if he stays in a powerhouse to get rings or if he's getting dumped in an expansion team which is likely not going to replicate Vegas (Other GMs won't be so easy on them in the expansion trades), tough choice. If he had a big cap but a salary I could see teams trading for but now... The only likeliness he chooses Seattle would be to be closer to his hometown but after a decade under the sun I don't know if I'd like to get back up north. Sticking Out Tongue

I was under the impression that a NTC doesn't protect you from expansion, only a NMC. Tampa would be offering McDonagh and the 1st to select Johnson. If I am Seattle that is an interesting offer as both of those two pieces help them compete right away which will be their goal. Down the road the contracts arent great, but can be managed.

The NMCs are de-facto but (someone could correct me if I'm wrong) when an expansion happens players contracts are often altered for their NTCs to include an additional team and if not as usual players are always free to change their team selection to include or not the new team.
