Avs 21-22 - OUCH

Équipe: 2021-22 Avalanche du Colorado
Date de création initiale: 5 juill. 2021
Publié: 5 juill. 2021
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
What hurts on this one.. Landeskog... He'd command over 9M$/yr and MackKinnon will also command plus than 10M$ (even more if the cap goes up in 2 years); so they need to figure this one out by trading his negotiations right out and getting established players in while getting picks back. I'd trade with Habs to get KK and Lehk; give them 1st pick in 2022 but get picks for this year to help the prospect bank.

While Landeskog is a player they would need, they also need to keep Makar and a good goalie, I chose to keep Grubauer since he's the first goalie and both would command about the same price at around a milllion off between him and Dubnyk. And Dub didn't show well in front of that team last year so. With very limited cap space, I chose to go the route some may not like, but it's for future pay day of Mack who's probably the best deal in the NHL right now for any player who would commend a UFA at their next signing. Habs need a big player, another leader, so hence the trade. They can move pieces and sign him at 9M+/yr for multiple versus Avs that won't be able to and keep Mack long term.

I move Kadri to Detroit to provide more cap space and give Detroit a seasoned player with their cap space, and they have lots of picks to provide Col with a 2nd and 3rd without damaging their own picks. .

Landeskog will be somewhere in the $7M range, not $9M. The easy contract comparable are Anders Lee (7x$7M), Chris Kreider (7x$6.5M), and James van Reimsdyk (5x$7M).
There are a lot of other areas to Colorado would look to cut salary before letting their captain walk as a free agent. JT Compher, Jonas Donskoi, and Erik Johnson are the obvious players who could be replaced internally by players on ELCs (Shane Bowers, Martin Kaut, Bowen Byram).

First off Landeskog is not going to ask for 9mil, end of discussion. And Mackinnon has said he wants to stay team friendly for his next contract and he will get a raise no doubt. So with that said I’m estimating his next contract to be in the 8-9 mil range

Guess you didn't read the description: "..trading his negotiations right out and getting established players in while getting picks back. I'd trade with Habs to get KK and Lehk; give them 1st pick in 2022 but get picks for this year to help the prospect bank."

I'd have called in Sakic to see that he doesn't lose Landeskog to Detroit or NJ for nothing. They may go for him at a high salary knowing they have cap space, and seeing that Yzerman hates Colorado because of their history. What would be greater than offer their captain a goo old 9M$/yr contract which they won't be able to pay since they need money to keep Makar, Grub and also round up enough players to fill in 3rd and 4th lines.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mack gets 10 mil, even without the cap raising in 2 more years thats still a team deal. He could easily ask for 12. And with how sakic has structured all the contracts on the team 10 mil will be easy to pay for that year with johnson, donny, compher & graves coming off the books.

You're not.. Yzerman is. And those are expendable picks to get a seasoned player btw.. Detroit have lots of picks, AFTER this trade, their still manage to keep TWO 1st and 2nd rounders, plus a 3rd rounder. To get Kadri, you pay almost nothing and still have your won picks which is a 42nd pick and a what like 70th? They can manage that loss for Kadri.

Oh and also... You know Yzerman could offer him an extension once he has him. But I can't show this here since it's the Avs team, not Detroit..

Yes. The habs picked Kotkaniemi at 3rd overall so they could trade him for a pick in the late 20s 3 years later.

Not even an early first pick would warrant this. They both have good playoffs (even if KK is scratched tonight) and Kotkaniemi is on the edge of having an upcoming breakout season. Adding Burakovsky would be interesting; Colorado could have problems resigning him the year after anyway.

Of all players you mention here only one good for Avs to look at numbers is Lee, they woul likely pull Max Paccioretti, and Ryan O'Reilly who are in the 7M figures with his comparable numbers.. But.. Taylor Hall signed for 8M$ last year..

Lee also signed July 1 2019, before the pandemic but his stats are comparable to a point..
2016-17 he got 52 PTS
2017-18 he got 62 pts ,
2018-19 he got 51 pts just before he signed
2019-20 he got 43 pts
2020-21 played only 27 games, got 19 pts (0.73 avg point per game).

Landeskog :
2016-17 he got 33 PTS
2017-18 he got 62 pts
2018-19 he got 75 pts
2019-20 he got 44 pts
2020-21 he got 52 pts (0.96 avg point per games).

He'll want to compare to Hall (8M$/yr); Bäckström (9.2M$/yr); Aho (8.4M$/yr); Tavares (Captain and at 11M$/yr); and Kopitar (10M$/yr). So he should come in at 9-9.5M$/yr if he commands the numbers he's worth. 7 ain't going to cut it, knowing MackKinnon will go up to the 10M$+ in 2 years time. He's seen at an incredible discount right now at 5.5M$ and with Rakko making 9.2M$ but signed in early 2019 he'll want his fair share.

I know.. Landeskog doesn't make that call to Sakic, but his agent will, and he'll ask for 10.5M$ to get near what Bäckström (9.2M$/yr); Aho (8.4M$/yr); Tavares (Captain and at 11M$/yr); and Kopitar (10M$/yr) get at a comparable rate with inflation knowing Detroit, New Jersey Carolina and Arizona all have the space to pay up. He'll settle around 9 to 9.5M$.

Else if Sakic uses the same words as your comment about "..end of discussion!" will be the last time Sakic discusses Landeskog with his agent.

Yep, and Price said the same thing in Mtl, and so many others before them said the same thing. Why do fans think their favorite players will sign for millions less to stay in their home town? Tavares said he wanted to stay in NYI but every knew he would be going to Toronto who provided 11M$/yr and since he's from there.. Why not. Price said he wanted to bring the cup in Mtl but signed 10.5M$/yr instead of lets say 8M$ and offer the GM some cash to go and get some offense to help win the cup..

Landeskog and MackKinnon have played for 4-5M$ less over the past few years, you think they won't move out if Avs offer 7M$/yr (lets say 5yrs = 35M$ total) when Detroit could come over and offer 9.5M$/yr (lets say 5yrs = 47.5M$ total) for Landeskog this year.. Yeah.. sure.. Because everyone knows that professional athletes leave over 10M$ on the table because they like it where they are at.

It's his last chance to cash in before he retires, he'll cash in, MackKinnon will cash in.. They will leave saying "I really liked my time here, love the fans, loved the personnel, but it was a business decision..." They all do. Only some will sign for less, Crosby for him it's a thing with his 87 number. 8.7M/yr and he keeps his 87 number.. Ovechkin, may sign for 9.5M again to stay in Washington, but Landeskog and Big Mack.. They've been paid far less over the years, so they'll want their cut, and if don't want to, their managers/agent will convince them otherwise for their future.

I said Landeskog would be around 9 to 9.5M$; MackKinnon should roll around 10-12M$ depending on the cap space staying put or moving up in the next two years. Depens on the after-pandemic shock.

We aren’t trading Kotkaniemi for the UFA rights of a guy we don’t want and can’t afford. You’d get a 4th round pick max. for Landeskog, and that’s only to a team that will actually sign him.

Unless he thinks he can flip him for a 1st at the deadline which we know we couldnt since everyone knows kadri can't keep his **** together for 2 minutes in the playoffs no way do they do this deal. I know we have lots picks but that's by design. Id use them to get Dunn or Patrick but not for a rental.

Detroit will not pay assets to get a C for one year when they have the option of signing one in FA without giving up anything or taking on one in a cap dump deal and getting paid for it.
