Quoting: Sabres1973
It’s just not the players we want. We are giving up a great young center (top5-7 center in the league who is 24) and you want us to take back a center who is gonna be 27 in October and will be coming off hip surgery and has had hip surgery before. I like Monahan, he is a great player but just not what the Sabres need now. If we did trade for him I would be ok just not thrilled. It’s definitely a downgrade from eichel. Plus we would also need a forward prospect. We are in a retool mode. It will unfortunately probably take us at least 2 years before we get back to the playoffs so by then he would be 29. His last 2 years he has regressed. Last year he had 28 points in 50 games. Last year Reinhart had almost as many goals as Monahan had points. It’s not that I don’t like him it’s just the wrong time to take a chance that he might rebound
It's very close. Duchene returned: Turris, Bowers, a protected 1st, a 3rd, & Hammond. Turris morphed into: Girard, Kamenev, & a 2nd. So the eventual return was: Girard, Bowers, Kamenev, a 1st, a 2nd, a 3rd, & Hammond. The Avs took a chance that one of the three prospects would pan out, and luckily Girard did. But nothing was guaranteed. Bowers is looking like a bottom sixer if he ever makes it. Kamenev already fizzled out.
In the above proposal, CGY is sending back two established, impact players. Given Eichel's status, I think it could use one more decent asset, like a pick or prospect, to be fair value.
