I know Washington wouldn't do it, but is there any team in the league that would pay for Nielsen? Even at that retention?

Easy no for Buffalo, why would we trade a younger player with a cheaper contract to acquire an older even more 1 trick pony?

Djoos signed in Europe.
Over pay for svechnikov.
No one is paying for Neilson.
No one is paying for dekeyser.
Panik is a cap dump, definitely not getting Thompson for him.
Those four first round picks, especially with this team, are lottery picks.
Not to mention if you ever get to a spot where you want to compete, makars cap hit is going to hinder every other contract.
The only thing here I like is the Wennberg signing, but then you are filling a hole where a young player could potentially be playing later in the year or next year.

How could they not accept the draft picks? They will get 4 players of equal value with all those lottery picks.

DDK is probably your best trade, but I don’t see any teams making any of these trades.

EDIT- I didn’t even notice the offer sheet. No comment.

i think a team could at least take a chance on Nielsen at 3 million for 1 year, especially one LIKE Washington where their time is running out for another cup, and could use some help at centre.

What help could the Caps use at center where Nielsen is an option? Eller and Dowd give us one of the better bottom-six center tandems in the league. Nielsen certainly isn't a top six center that would supplant either Backstrom or Kuznetsov.

i mean you would also be losing a norris level player who is only 22 years old, doubt any of those picks turn into a guy of Makar's level unless they luck out into a top 3 pick but with Detroits roster like this, it think it would be around the #10 pick

id imagine dowd or nielsen could move to the wing. Nielsen isn't great but I also think he looks alot worse bc hes on the red wings. He can certainly add some smarts, leadership and maybe an option on PP2. Also a fairly low-risk move since its only 1 year

With this defence, and those goalies unless they turn their games right around, this team is a bottom feeder for quote a few years. Not to mention the lack in cap space to sign up and coming guys to their raises.

Just doesn't fit into our lineup. Ovechkin is the only of our 12 forwards that isn't signed, and given how cash strapped we are, there's no room for another $3M bottom six guy. The fourth line of Hagelin-Dowd-Hathaway was the only line that stuck together the whole season and was very good against Boston. Nielsen seems more a target for a team with a bunch of young forwards that could use a veteran presence. Caps need to get younger, not older.

Hearing you out....Avs match no matter what

Plus why in the world is makar wanting to sign in Detroit. Just bc a team prepares an OS doesn't mean it even sees the light of day in front of the player. Guys do value winning, fit, culture, etc over money

If Andersen can be a .907 2.90 type of goalie (which is possible), then they will be fine on the goaltending. I'd also look at drafting Wallstedt if I were them at 6. But if they dont, they are probably going defenceman at 6 meaning they will have #6 pick, Seider, Viro, Johansson all coming up next year or in the next few years. They would also have the best defenceman on the planet with them who is only 21. Hronek and Reilly are also very capable top 4 defencemen.

That is not a bottom feeder team...

Money is always #1 for most players, and any player would be more than okay playing on a roster constructed by Steve Yzerman. The Red Wings will be competing in the next 2 years. And Colorado might not have the money to match it

no its not the #1 thing for most players, that is flat out wrong. Youre a leafs fan, Tavares left multi million dollars off the table to sign with the Leafs instead of the Sharks bc he had other reasons besides Money. Panarin didnt sign the Avs bigger offer to go to the New York bc he wanted to live there instead. We can go on and on about how players do this

And that that roster is awful right now with one of the worst coaching staffs in the league that they just extended. So right now why would someone want to sign an OS and not win a thing for 5 years and waste a large chunk of their prime.

And Avs can match it. Look at how you just gave away Cap space in your moves in DeKeyser and Nielsen. If its that easily to move money in the flat cap, avs can buyout EJ and trade compher to add a few extra million beyond the 10m they have set aside for Makar now

Wouldn't go that far about the coaching staff, probably don't know much about them, but I agree with the logic of them being able to match if it was that easy.

Ok all the the trades are lopsided in Detroit favor.

The value of your RFA signings are off.

There is a good chance Hirose is the only UFA out of that group that signs in Detroit maybe Gagner as well if he doesn't go back to Edmonton.

But that is exactly who I think Seattle takes from Detroit in the expansion draft.
