I'm not sure there is a draft pick high enough to take on Vlasic's contract lol.

It's top 10 but we also get Merkley and to dump Byron so sort of evens up IMO

So what contracts are coming of the books when Suzuki, Caufield and Romanov sign their next deals? The habs can inherit a hefty contract for 2 years, but thats it. Unless Weber or Prrice somehow get traded.

I love the idea if Vlasic only had two years left on his deal

San Jose isn't in that much of a cap crunch to make this deal and trade away from #7. They have $10 million in cap space and 7 slots to fill, with no one particularly expensive to re-sign. Their most expensive off-season acquisition will be a goalie; if they spend $4 million on him and average $1 million each on the 6 skaters, they'll be fine. Moreover, Kane's cap hit might go away on its own. Ordinary roster-juggling should make the Sharks cap-compliant with room.

Actually if you check the long term tab we have 10 mil for Evans, Suzuki and Romanov next year. The following year could see Weber retire or be traded back to Nashville for LTIR relief and to avoid him retiring and causing a recap penalty. We also have trade options up front guys like Anderson, Toffoli or Lehkonen could be moved.

Youd have to think sharks decline for the simple reason that a late 2nd and drouin arent enough for sjs to retain 3.5 for 4 years let alone move kane at 3.5x4.

Yeah I was not sure about that part of the deal either perhaps Montreal throws in a prospect like Struble or Mysak as well

This is a very very easy pass for SJ, not paying to move vlasic if we aren’t even going to compete, especially if you want Evander Kane with retention, 7th overall, and Merkley.

Honestly, I really didn't care about getting Kane just thought the Sharks could use a good young setup guy like Drouin but wanted some decent value back. Since Ducharme let it slip that Drouin was "getting thee help he needs" before yesterday's game, it seems like Drouins issues are mental health related so his value won't be tanked now.

San Jose would be pretty dumb to make this trade. They give up the 2 best assets by a significant margin in Kane (at 50% NO LESS) and a 7th OA pick, just to get rid of an overpaid player?

As far as I know, Byron and Drouin contracts are not too attractive too...

You have to give up the best assets in a cap dump hence the reason it's called a "dump"! Plus Drouin and Kane are not that far apart in skill but as I stated above I really don't care much about swapping Drouin for Kane so if you want we can just make it Vlasic + 1st + Merkely for Byron and call it a day.

I know the cost to move Vlasic is massive, so we just wont move him. This would screw the sharks future for a long long time

My thinking here is that management is not in favor of a rebuild yet. I don't agree with this but it is what it is. So by moving out vlasic and Kane (even in a separate deal with a different team) they open the door to bring in younger options that allow them to extend their window and compete still. Like I said I am not as interested in Kane as much as rebuilding the Habs lol.

Yeah but here we lose what those younger options would be. The sharks dont have an amazing prospect pool to fall back on

Yes I agree the sharks need to build up their project pool butthat isn't what management wants to do. They want to win now and dumping Vlasic to bring in say Dunn or Hoffman or another top UFA helps them achieve that.

If my GM gives up a 7th OA pick (extremely valuable) and a top line power forward on a SWEETHEART deal at 3.5 x4 years just get rid of a contract, not only I'd demand his head but I'd go get his head myself.

"Plus Drouin and Kane are not that far apart in skill" doesn't mean much. No GM in their right mind would make that swap, even if Kane had zero retention.

Paul Byron was on waivers with no takers and has 2 more years at 3.4

Drouin has 2 more years at 5.5 and is most likely seen as a cap dump too right now considering the economic/cap current context

Vlasic + Merkley for Byron and Drouin would be kinda fair for the first 2 years

So to "get rid" of Vlasic last 3 years at 7.0, the Sharks would sacrifice a 7th OA pick (their highest since 2003) and give up Evander Kane at 50% retention?

They better hang on to him and buy him out. They need to rebuild anyway. A team in their situation would NEVER sacrifice such a high pick to get rid of a cap dump.

You can believe you what you want. I am telling you this is 0% realistic.

I am just going off reports that the Sharks are NOT rebuilding anytime soon. If they were going to rebuild you would be absolutely right that they would not and should not pay to move Vlas8c but the GM is on record as saying they are not rebuilding just maybe a slight retool which this is.

Then I think their next decade it's going to be painful.

Major retool could work but seriously, the most valuable assets are good young players on their ELC.

Even if they're not going in the right direction, I can't see anything close to your proposal happen unless Wilson lost his mind

You can't spell Dump with Drouin. Outside of Quebec he is a cap dump also.
