That defense is terrible

I know lol. I just feel like they should kick the can until next offseason for dmen unless something falls in their lap.

In this they would have 37mil in cap space best offseason. So let's say 25mil after Boeser and Debrusk sign (if Debrusk bounces back). Then throw money at Lindholm and Pulock if they both hit free agency. That still leaves them with probably 12mil to upgrade elsewhere.

Maybe it's just me but I'd rather keep Schmidt and sign Pulock and another winger maybe Forsberg the next offseason

Hakanpaa is a good pickup to play with Rathbone as a 3rd pair defenseman
but Miller and McCabe are going to get the brakes beat off them when they play against McDavid and Draisaitl

McCabe is actually really good. Legitimate top 4 dman. Only reason I have him so cheap is because he is coming off of knee surgery and has played 13 games in 18months. If he was healthy he'd likely get term in the 4mil range.

I respect not liking it as a fan but this is a very reasonable deal for Debrusk. Boston needs to strengthen their backend. Debrusk is coming off a 5g season, cap hit of 3.65mil, actual money owed is 4.8mil, and his qualifying offer next offseason is around 4.1mil. He has much much less value than Boston fans want to accept.

Schmidt is actually a good fit in Boston. Would pair well with either McAvoy or Carlo.

They need a bona fide #1 LD and a big nasty LD, he is neither and plays much better on his off side as well. They don’t need another soft defenseman.
