If Ladd is going on LTIR why would the Isles trade him for a declining player on a larger and longer contract? They could just throw him on LTIR themselves and call it a day.

It makes plenty of sense IMO, unless Ladd goes to LTIR. Soucy is a nice young defenseman at a reasonable deal, Parise can play while Ladd cannot, we'll lose Komarov's salary, we'll probably lose Leddy in Expansion anyway, and we recoup some draft picks.

Other than the term on Parise's deal, what's the downside?

“Parise can play” - he’s a 4th liner. There are players that can be signed for under 1 mill in free agency that are better than Parise.

The islanders are better off trading Leddy and burying komarov instead of trading for a plug like Parise. There are other ways to create space than running your team into the ground

If Parise is a 4th liner what is Ladd? An AHLer?

Ladd would probably look out of place in the ECHL, but why are we adding a 4th liner making 7.5 mill with a contract taking him to his age 40 season. I’d rather bury Ladd , have dal colle play and allocate the extra 3 mill elsewhere.
