Sorry…that wasnt supposed to be Vegas retaining.

3rd party team retains for a pick. I forgot to do it though.

Blah with Wedgewood. He’s an AHL goalie. I would rather DeSmith 100 times over.

And PO-Joseph would play LHD ahead of J.Benn.

No way Pens trade Marino, signed long term on a good deal, for 1 season of S.Jones(who said he wants a 8M contract).

And I like B.Jenner, I think the Pens should trade for him this offseason or at the TD. But not for PO-Joseph. B.Jenner is a rental too.

But basically “x” that whole CBJ deal and keep PO-Joseph/Marino as the 2nd pairing and sign a LW/RW to play on Geno’s line or move McCann up and sign a player to play on Carter’s line.

Pens don’t trade Drew OConnor. A 22 year old prospect, that looked good this season in his 1st pro season. Last year he was the Ivy League player of the year. Everyone was raving about him in the Pens organization.

The 2nd round pick would be plenty for a team to retain 3.5M for 1 season.

Put Zohorna on the taxi squad too. He has options left.

Friedman and Ruhwedel are the only 2 that have to be scratches and kept on the roster. Neither would clear waivers. They would be picked up.

Wedgewood established himself as an NHL goalie this year. If not him, then a other veteran on league min works too.

P.O Joseph is expendable if you are getting Seth Jones (or another player of the same ilk)

Again, Pens would trade Marino if it meant getting a player like Seth Jones. He is on a fair contract, not a good one, and is overrated. Best case scenario he performs to his contract. Worst case he is MP 2.0. Pens would move him in the right deal. He has value and is what it would take for Pens to get an impact player.

Boone Jenner is a nice fit, absolutely. The trade isnt P.O for him. He is added to the Jones trade because Marino and P.O are there.

O Connor is nothing special. 22 year olds aren’t really prospects. There are players every year who tear up college as an over ager and amount to nothing at the next level. Sure, he may be an NHL player but he will never be a top 6 F. He does not bring anything special to the table.

Cap space is extremely expensive. Especially right now. I actually think it would likely cost more. There are a lot of teams looking to shed salary. Inflates cost.

Is there even a taxi squad next year?

    Yes, both are scratches.

    Wedgewood 15 games, 3-8 with a 3.11 GAA and .900SV%.. lol. 28 years old.

Marino is signed long term on a good contract. U know how valuable that is..??

Seth Jones is a rental. Wants a 8M extension. And will probably test Free Agency.

PO-Joseph, a controllable, young, LHD that the organization loves.

Marino and PO Joseph for S.Jones and B.Jenner(another one year rental). No way, crazy!! Not a chance in hell!! And the Pens add draft picks..lol.

OConnor, a 22 year old, in his 1st pro season played well and was raved about by the organization. He is 6’3, 210 pounds. And contributes offensively. Was the Ivy League “Player of the Year” last season. Had 19 points in 20 games in the AHL this season. When he wasn’t on the Pens taxi squad.

It’s what the Pens need, size, physical, and a 200 foot, two-way player.

Yes, he can play a bottom 6 role, mid 6 role and move up eventually like Rust or Hyman. B/c he’s not just a top 6 or bust. He’s big enough, physical enough, and good enough defensively to play on a legit NHL 3rd or 4th line.

He’s not just a throw on.

Again, another cheap controllable NHL player that the organization loves. And most likely won’t be traded.

Ok dude, I’m trying to help, most of these moves make zero sense or make the teams worse. I was trying to help.

You have Zohorna as a scratch when he doenst need to be. He still has options, can be sent down and doenst have to clear waivers. No need for Pens to keep him on the roster.

Oilers steer clear of this one. After Jarry's playoffs (I believe based on GSAA it was the worst playoff goalie performance since 2014) I don't think his value is as high as it was. Zucker also has 2 years left on a high paying contract coming off of a down year. Jarry is still 26 and could very well figure it out and Zucker could have a bounce back but there is risk in both of those contracts. Kassian is a dump going the other way but the Oilers walk out of this with an extra $5.8mil in cap hit and are giving up a 1st AND one of our better forward prospects. Oilers would be more likely to target a Killorn/Palat out of Tampa before Zucker and take a look at the UFA goalies.

I don’t think Burke or Hextall have had anything overly optimistic to say about POJ or O Connor. Neither are ever going to be anything special. We can move them in the right deal.

Next offseason we have Malkin and Letangs contracts off the books. Could resign Jones if we wanted or sign another big name FA or both.

Not saying this is the way or the highway but something like this ACGM is what I think they should be doing. POJ and O Connor or other prospects and picks do not get us closer to a championship in our window (which is realistically this year and thats it). They also are not going to be key pieces in a rebuild because they aren’t good enough. This makes them expendable.

Marino can also be moved in the right deal if a team isn’t scared of his contract.

I agree Zohorna should play and we probably will. When is this team ever fully healthy? It won’t be to start with Malkin out so he wpuld be playing.

Wedgewood I think is better than those #’s suggest. But sure, sign a veteran for league min instead.

Both Hextall and Burke raved about OConnor this year. And Sully.. but ok, whatever.

PO Joseph was playing on the top pairing when the D was decimated with injuries. He put on 20-25 pounds of muscle. Up to 185 pounds. Tons of quotes coming out of the organization saying they love him. Actually, Just read one today on BR.

    Copy and paste.

The Penguins got a glimpse of what he can offer this past season. On Jan. 22 when several of the Penguins’ incumbent defensemen — Mike Matheson, Marcus Pettersson and Juuso Riikola — were sidelined due to injuries.

For a handful of games, Joseph was on the top pairing with Letang, a fairly demanding assignment given Letang’s penchant for being aggressive on the rush.

Joseph, who added roughly 20 pounds of muscle last offseason, has all the baseline attributes to be an NHL defenseman today. He can skate, move the puck and sees the ice very well.

His time has come, even if the logistics dictate otherwise.

Ya, But you don’t just “throw in” D.OConnor, plus a 2nd round pick for 1.5M retention for 1 season. A 2nd round pick alone is more than enough. Arvidsson just went for a 2nd and 3rd round pick. And he’s signed for 3 more season.

U want to give up a 2nd round pick and a prospect for a team just to retain 1.5Mfor 1 season.

And I’ll take Marino signed at 4.4M long term over 1 season of Seth Jones and his 8M ask for his contract extension. Pens arnt paying that, so 6 years of Marino signed at 4.4Mor 1 season of Seth Jones?? I’ll take Marino and so would everyone else in the world.

I don’t think Seth Jones is all he’s cracked up to be either..read this link.

Pens could resign Jones next year. Malkin/Letang contracts are up.

If they can give less for retention great. Cap space and money are very expensive right now in the NHL. Teams are going to get a lot if they want to take on salary.

    Lol. Not worth the argument.

Pens arnt trading for Jones. And wouldn’t resign him either. He’s asking for 8M long term deal. Read the article.

There seems to be this belief around Jones that he is an elite, two-way defender. I’m not sure where this is coming from — maybe due to his heavy usage time in Columbus or because he is big and hits a lot — but it just isn’t true. In fact, the metrics show that he is one of the worst players defensively in the entire NHL, with a minus-3.40 even-strength defensive goals above replacement (EVD_GAR), ranking 18th worst league-wide. This shows that he is below the level of a seventh defenseman in his own end.

Not even worth resigning him, especially for what he’s asking. Re-sign Letang to a team-friendly deal. Letang makes few mistakes defensively and is still a top 5 Point on the PP in the NHL.

    Lol. Not worth the argument.

Pens arnt trading for Jones. And wouldn’t resign him either. He’s asking for 8M long term deal. Read the article.

    Copy and paste

There seems to be this belief around Jones that he is an elite, two-way defender. I’m not sure where this is coming from — maybe due to his heavy usage time in Columbus or because he is big and hits a lot — but it just isn’t true. In fact, the metrics show that he is one of the worst players defensively in the entire NHL, with a minus-3.40 even-strength defensive goals above replacement (EVD_GAR), ranking 18th worst league-wide. Malkin signs for less. Letang signs for less. There is your money for Jones right there.

Again, probably wont happen. But it could. And Pens should look to make some sort of a splash whether that be Jones or whoever else is available.

No room for Jones with Letang and Marino both playing 20plus minutes a night. And Letang and Marino the Point on the 1st and 2nd PP unit.

Jones makes no sense coming to the Pens. None at all. He doesn’t fit, too expensive, etc. read the article.

And Geno and Letang arnt signing for a combination of 8M less, what jones in asking for.

And again if u read the article, it says why Jones isn’t worth it.

Man, that Panos guy has no idea. His articles are almost all trash. Just because someone posts something online doesnt make it right…

Marino is gone in this scenario. They don’t need 8m in cap they need 2.6. He is already getting paid 5.6. Pens can negotiate more than 2.6 less between Letang and Malkins contracts.

Again, whether it be Jones or any other elite player available kt doesn’t matter…make a big deal and go for it this year. This is one option.

Yep, pick and choose what articles to believe and not to believe based on whether it’s goes along with your narrative. Seems about right.

Well if the Pens went after Jones it would make no sense in any situation imo. Seeing as he’s a 1 year rental and gonna want a 8M long term contract this upcoming offseason.

Me and every other Pens fan would be PO-ed if the Pens did anything like that. Sacrifice re-signing Letang(who is still a top 5 Point on the PP in the NHL) and Marino for Jones.

Again, it is likely they would resign Malkin, Letang and Jones in this scenario. Or any other scenario where they pick up a top guy available.

Also I didn’t say that about articles. I said the Panos guy is a nitwit and all of his articles are trash.

Not a team that can’t afford him and already has Letang and Marino as their Points on the 1st and 2nd PP.

Great idea!! Pay 3 RHD. One 7M, one 5.4M and one 4.4M when u are already up against the cap.
