I agree. Winnipeg needs to be cautious just how much they pay a 3rd liner after one good season. I like Copp, a lot, and his diversity to move around the lineup is nice, but not convinced he will produce similar numbers again, especially with a return to "normal" next season. Further more, I really think the expansion draft plays a big part. If Copp only wants a 1 year deal, to walk himself to free agency, or takes the Jets to arbitration again in hopes of top dollars, the Jets should explore a trade and find a way to shield Appleton from from Seattle. Losing Appleton for only 1 year of Copp is not ideal.

And you know what, that's totally fair. It's reasonable for him to target that. That may be a number the Jets agree to. What I like most is the term. A one or 2 year deal where he walks himself to UFA and we lose him for nothing (as well as another asset to Seattle ED, that could have been protected) is the large premise of this trade "shop."

Copp is a top 9 forward.his skill set is completely different than Prefetti’s so I’m not sure their futures are intertwined. Paying 3+M for two depth forwards in your top 9 is difficult, but not unrealistic if you have other top 6 pieces under market value (Scheifele and Ehlers).

Yeah I don’t get the love for 2nd rounders especially in the 2021 draft. If you have 3, I would use 1 at least to buy low on an established player

I'd try selling him as a center since so many teams looking for 2C or 3C.
Maybe target teams with a 2nd 1st rounder (CBJ, DET, MIN) or extra early 2nd rounder (LAK, OTT, VGK)

Appreciate the proposal. Not sure Rielly is a fit and fear it would be a 1 (season) and done kinda scenario. Part of the reason I think Copp could be moved.
