Way for teams to not give up a player in the Expansion draft

Description
Steps to not give up a player in the draft.

This will only work if SEA agrees to the 3 team trade and a third team does too. The third team is most likely VGK, but can be any other team, that is willing to give up 2 players.

For this example, I will use VGK.

1) Find a player on VGK that SEA likes and VGK are ok losing. For this hypothetical, I will use Holden.

2) Trade a prospect/ pick to VGK for Holden. Think of the pick/ prospect as compensation for not having a player selected off your roster.

3) SEA selects Holden off your roster. You can give SEA a pick as compensation, but you don't have to.

Now you gave an OK prospect, and a 4th round pick, to keep players like Bean, Fast, and Martinook for free!

It makes no sense because you lose both picks and prospects to do it. It's easier to bite the bullet on one player

Maybe your right but a team like CAR or TBL would make a trade like this to help them not lose a big player. Also, all of the players and picks involved in this scenario were hypothetical and can be changed anytime.

Even for Carolina, this makes no sense. The biggest loss here is Skjei or Bean. That's not a big deal. Think of it as trading to keep that player, would you give up Puistola and a 4th for Brady Skjei? No. Just keep the magic beans and let them take the larger deal.

I get that it's more about the theory and less about the teams, but Carolina doesn't have much to lose in my opinion. We lose Skjei, Bean, Geekie, Foegele, or Lorentz. All of those players a pretty easily replaceable. Tampa is also going to want to use the ExD to get rid of cap. I'm not sure what teams could use this tbh. Maybe Colorado?

But why would Seattle agree to this lol? If there’s a better player available they’ll just take the better player, nobody likes Holden so much that they’d pass on Skjei. And getting a player from vegas like Smith or something that would actually be better than anyone else you don’t protect, would cost more assets than the assets you hope to protect

Maybe SEA excepts because they get a higher pick than a 4th. Or SEA could like the player a 3rd team is offering.
