Thoughts on these cap moves while improving Defense and Forwards

Description
Kesler is owed $1.375m by Anaheim with the rest covered by insurance (I believe insurance typically covers 80%)
Roussell is owed $1.9m
For $525k in additional real money Anaheim gets a player that can be in the locker room for leadership and play 4th line while also not having any LTIR so they can accrue capspace during the year allowing for more trade flexibility. They also get a late round pick. Canucks are able to clear $3m off the cap by moving Roussell and putting Kes onto LTIR.

Thoughts on the Pittsburgh trade? Adds grit and leadership tandem goalie for Jarry at $3m plus restocking their prospects a bit.

I know some people think more is needed for Reinhart. I disagree but I'm really wondering more about the Roussell and Pettersson trades.

I only went 2yrs on Hughes but I think if it's 3 or 4 years it will be closer to the 6-7m range

I think you're right on Reinhart's value, but the Buffalo people won't agree with us.

The Kesler deal is really intriguing. I'm having a hard time imagining why it wouldn't be good for Anaheim. I figure that whether it's good for the Canucks is YOUR problem. (Kesler's actual compensation is a little below his cap hit, so you're off by $40,000, but who the $%#& cares?)

I think that you're overpaying, maybe by that entire 40th overall selection, for Marcus Pettersson. The problem, of course, is figuring out what Holtby is really worth, and to whom.

Thanks I appreciate the input.

I would gladly give up less for Pettersson, like you said it really depends on whether Holtby with some retention has value to them or not. Would of course much rather give up the 3rd rounder instead of the 2nd rounder.

The Kesler trade is really just for Anaheim to get a roster player for their money rather than someone who can't play. Roussell can still play 4th line, he kills penalties and by all accounts has a great personality and professional mindset. Provides a bit of veteran stability to the young group there. Plus they get a late pick. Could always bump the pick up to a 5th rounder. I think it's something Anaheim would consider unless they have some moves up their sleeves that puts them tight to the cap again. Roussell has never really been able to recover from his knee injury but if he feels healthier then he can still add a bit of value for a season.

Agreed. On both points. But I'd put money on there being some B level project prospect Vancouver doesn't particularly care about being included in the deal to make it look bigger.

Ya I would have no problem throwing in a B level prospect if that was the deal breaker for them.

Edler is coming back so you have to fit him somewhere.

I mean that's the reports out there but I'm really not convinced it's going to happen. I think it's similar to the Tanev situation last year where if they can find what they believe to be an upgrade then they will let him go unless he signs extremely cheap. Last year it was the Schmidt acquisition, in this situation it would be my Pettersson acquisition.

In this situation to bring Edler back he would have to be willing to sign for 950k with heavy performance bonuses.

I think both sides get a deal done, especially now with the Sedins playing a role.

Really?
In what alternate universe is an established 50 pt, 20+ goals per year RW who plays in the lowest scoring team in the NHL ONLY worth the 9th OA pick in a poor draft.
Adams may be really stupid, but he is not a baby.
Pierre-Luc Dubois was traded with a third for Jack Roslovic and Patrik Laine.
Dubois' stats are not as impressive as Sam's and Pierre-Luc plays for a playoff team, not the worse team in the NHL!
I am sure you will all remind me that Sam plays with Jack, but Jack did not play this year and Sam had the highest goal/game % of his career.
EDIT:
Let me add, you can get Pettersson, Marcus for less than that.
Move Lind and the 2021 2nd round pick (VAN) and it is closer to fair.

As a Pens fan, I like the offer, I would accept it as it is, but I would like to include Sam Lafferty in it.

Not sure we need a 4M LD, never mind trade for one.
Reinhart had questions about his character early in his career with Buffalo and the same issue came up again late this past year. Apart from the fact that he's a BC kid, I'm not sure why people are falling all over themselves to throw away a 9OA pick. This guy is virtually "Matt Duchene" to a "T" and look how that trade turned out. All the signs are there for one more contract to regret before the ink is even dry....I just don't get it.

You're missing the whole point of his evaluation -- he's a one-year rental.
