As a Canuck fan, I wouldn't match. This is a player who hasn't been a PPG scorer in 3 years in the league, struggles to stay healthy and isn't good enough in the face-off circle to be a legit number one center. There's no way he he's worth that money right now, and that contract would cripple this core's chances at a Stanley Cup.

Hughes could be tempting for an offer sheet….except he’s not eligible to sign an offer sheet, so that’s not a worry. Vancouvers cap situation doesn’t matter for this discussion. Pettersson is their most important asset. They sign him and worry about everything else later.
