this is not a team that moves the needle enough to make it appear that they will either A be a contender or B be relevent in philly, part of the problem is need a return to relevency in our own markets especially when all the other teams are not very good/disappointing. Have to absolutely have to swing for fences even if a fail, shows they care and tried doing this doesnt happen

Ghost passed through waivers during "one of his best years" (Hammerwise, 2021 wink ) so I'm quite confident that no one's giving a 2nd and a 4th for him. Maybe Philly can find a taker that needs a LD (Detroit?) for just a 4th but I wouldn't be surprised if it costed Philly to move his contract. That having been said, the Oilers ain't it, chief.

That is true, but he also passed through waivers with a cap hit of $4.5M in a season with a flat cap :/ So I'd say there probably is a suitor for him, idk if its EDM though.

Would love every player you signed, however, would you prefer Dumba or Jones?

Prefer Jones, but cost and contract of Dumba is better.

Not sure if you know why he passed through waivers or why he wasnt picked up at that point. It was an odd point of the season, too far before trade deadline, various injuries had set him back and then team had 3 goalies and 8 dmen, so somebody had to go on waivers. Team quite smartly figured out Ghost wouldnt be picked up and it was purely a paper move. Corey Perry was also on waivers at league minimum and went unclaimed.

If you think 19 minutes a night, 40+ pt pace, steady defense and a good +/- on a team thats defense and goaltending tanked is a cap dump, then theres no point in arguing with you.

True, but this is a very young team that made game 6 of the 2nd round the prior year. Going into this year they were viewed as a huge contender. Even this year they finished with a winning record, while their youth regressed and they gave up the most goals in the nhl. Adding a Cam york, a morgan frost, a wade aliison and stopping the regression of carter hart, sanheim and myers makes them a contender again. Solidifying the defense by adding two steady vets is more than enough, they don;t need a big splash.

yes i just get nervous for the sake of relevency but clearly from a logical hockey standpoint, absolutely this all makes sense, but legit fans like us who see this is as good it wont last for a casual fan in being have to contend immediately

I would think that Matt Dumba would be selected by Seattle. And if this trade is before the expansion draft, how would the Flyers protection list look like?

They'd have to do a deal, maybe offer them not just their choice of JVR, Hagg or Ghost or NAK but a 2nd (44th overall) as well. But again all of these deals can be done after expansion, making it MINNE that has to work out a deal with SEA not to choose Dumba, or the same deal is offered to SEA if they choose Dumba.

(It'll be interesting because I think SEA could choose lots of tradeable commodities, (for PHI interest: possible RDefenders like Mayfield NYI or Dumba MIN or Cernak TB or Risto BUF).

I think the flyers go 7-3-1, with Giroux/Hayes/Coots/Lindblom/TK/Laughton/Patrick or Voracek, then Sanheim/Provorov/Myers and Hart.

Expansion choices are:

JVR
Voracek
NAK
Braun
Hagg
lyons

So I'm thinking SEA goes for guaranteed production on the high end in JVR or cheap/no risk option of Hagg or NAK. (As I put above, SEA goes for JVR)

Philly is in a real good place because their RFAs are rather cheap resigns, they have good picks and a pretty full prospect system. I think they'll deal with SEA and get some good player/s who probably normally wouldn;t be available for trade but have been chosen in expansion. After resigns the Flyers should have about 5mil free, without expansion choice or moving Ghost.

They should have contended this past season. Put it this way, even if Carter Hart and the 2nd pairing of Sanheim/Myers had an average year, this team makes the playoffs. Offensively they have 8 very good pt producers/scorers and add speed/grit with frost and allison. If Hart returns to average form and they get even just one RD who can play 20+ minutes a night they make the playoffs

Just seems kind of weird for MIN to spend assets to have Seattle not select Dumba, only to trade him afterwards. If I was MIN, I would make Philly do the trade before the expansion draft and tell them to figure out their own plan for protection. Otherwise, they would probably just keep Dumba if assets were spent to not select him.

It works either way (but not really on CapFriendly unless you want to do a whole expansion draft): either PHI makes the deal before expansion and then "Pays" for SEA to select JVR OR Seattle selects him and PHI offers that deal to SEA.
