No chance the Leafs retain any salary in which they trade away the best player in the deal. I understand your rational why you did what you said, but it's a poor deal for the Leafs and there's no way around that. It makes the team worse, even if everyone is mad at Marner for his playoff performance.
Can I just add that Marner's contract is not a "problem" nor something the Leafs have to "get out of." He's an excellent player who is paid pretty much what's hes worth. Would I like it to be a bit cheaper, of course. Would I have preferred it if we didn't have a pandemic that caused lots of bad things, including the flat cap, of course. But that doesn't mean you trade him on 50 cents to the dollar, and Dubas won't either
