S.Poulin, Pens prospect, should play a similar role to Tkuchuk. Of course he’s not Tkuchuk, but similar. 6’3, 215 pound power forward, goal scorer, good passer.
He can start off as a mid 6 in the NHL and move up too. He’s not one of those prospects like Nic Robertson who is a top 6 or bust. Who has to fit into a top 6 role. Too small, not physical enough, not good enough defensively, to play on a legit, NHL 3rd-4th line for a contending team.
Having patients with a prospect on the NHL
Level is fine on a rebuilding team. They are able to let a prospect get his feet wet in the NHL on a lower line and gradually increase his role.
Contending teams don’t have that luxury or time. Prospect development isn’t a main priority when competing for the play-offs or SC every year. Take it from a Pens fan. Points r just too hard to come by in the NHL.
But b/c of Poulin size and physicality, he can play on a contending teams 3rd-4th line to get his feet wet in the NHL 1st before getting an increased role as a top 6.
