OEL is just too expensive and, as others have pointed out, he's not likely to waive his NMC. This also opens a hole on RD and leaves the Habs looking for a 2C with size that can score.
I really hope the Habs pick up a PMD in the offseason, but I think there's more reasonable options. Here's a few I'd look at if I were Berge:
Vince Dunn -- reasonably cheap, young, good offensively, questionable defensively
Ryan Graves -- I'd try for Girard first, but Graves is big and good at moving the puck, tho he had some trouble against the Vegas forecheck
Shayne Gostisbehere -- like Dunn, good offensively, questionable defensively and cheap to acquire -- cap hit is rough tho
Alec Martinez -- UFA and had a great year, but not going to be cheap and may not be overly fond of Montreal after the playoffs
Alex Goligoski -- UFA and good puck mover, but will be 36 to start the season and not coming off his best year
Jamie Oleksiak -- UFA, young, big and good, but not really a PMD
Zach Werenski -- far and away the best on the list, but the Habs likely don't have the assets to make a deal & CBJ only moves him if he asks for a trade (and its not like anyone ever wants out of Columbus...)
