Description
Okay, so the Bs need a #1LHD. But the Canes need to sign: Martinook, Svech, and 2 goalies at a minimum, and consider resigning Hamilton. They can do all that with their projected 30mil in cap space, but if they decide they want Hamilton back bad enough, would they consider moving one of their LD studs to make room? Any thoughts on whether this is possible or if the package for them is there? Obviously Slavvin is preferred over Skjei, but both would be helpful.

Slavin isn't available and this isn't even close. Also: should not trade for Skjei.

Slavin is untouchable.

If Hamilton leaves, Skjei might end up untouchable out
of necessity. However, moving Skjei for someone like DeBrusk makes sense for the Canes if they were to make such a deal prior to the expansion draft.

Skjei is a solid 2nd pair D, and DeBrusk would look good with Trocheck and Necas I’d say. Anyway, seems like DeBrusk is in the doghouse and some fans crap all over Skjei, so who knows what the respective GMs think.

Personally, I think the Canes lose Skjei to Seattle and bank on Bean since he’s younger and significantly cheaper. Not sure that would be the right move though if they end up losing both Hamilton and Skjei.

The Canes might be more interested in what it would take to get a healthy Kase. They’ve tried to acquire him before.

I get what you're saying but even if Dougie leaves Skjei shouldn't be untouchable. His Skill set and production is replaceable in free agency (maybe even at a cheaper price).

Not so sure I agree.

Replacing 1 top 4 D in a flat-cap world is tough enough. Replacing 2, infinitely harder. It takes time for a D to adjust to RBA’s style of play. Skjei has done this. There will be a learning curve for any new D acquisition.

Counting on “buying” D with a flat-cap with this free agent crop doesn’t leave me very confident. Call me a cynic, but the LD ufa crop this coming year is awful.

Would you trade McAvoy for that? That's how highly Carolina values Slavin

What is the deal with Vaak? Is it still an issue of contributing more of offense to go with his defense? Reading plays? Bad jumps?
Also what is the deal with DeBrusk?

I wouldn’t mind the Skjei deal depending on the issues with the two players. Urho, from what I read, sounds like the same issues as Fleury. DeBrusk could be a great depth scorer or just a less physical and more expensive Foegele.

If Skjei was moved we would have to be determined to keep Dougie

A skjei deal is, “thank you for taking skjei.” It isn’t going to involve worrying about return assets.

Ehhh, Skjei isn’t near as bad as people make him out to be. Yes we could find someone who is a million cheaper to do the same thing. At the same time, he was trusted with Pesce to play the hardest minutes. We shouldn’t just say “thanks for taking him.” DeBrusk, if a repeated performance, is another someone who would be 1-1.5 million overpaid for what he brings.

I was interested in Vaan’s play to judge whether he could be a good 3LD with a stronger partner next to him. I haven’t seen him play.

I’m sure you could find a youtube of his NHL shifts.

Guys that are getting overpaid long term don’t get much in the trade market, if anything.
