Terrible trade for Ducks.....Bad trade for Leafs with Arizona. Better value available than 4.5m Savard

I think you've seriously overestimated Morgan Rielly's value in general and seriously underestimated the importance of the 33rd overall selection in this year's draft, next year's first and Troy Terry to us specifically. We might trade you some roster players so that you could put Rielly's cap hit to better use, but I doubt that you would get any one of those three elements in a package in an exchange for an expensive one-year rental. That's the price we would pay for William Nylander, maybe.

To get Morgan Rielly to replace Josh Manson who has been in rumour mills for being traded. Troy Terry was going to get traded as well so how is that a bad trade when Manson will fetch you the same return if you shipped him off to Detroit you could get their 6th overall pick draft that really good Swede goalie and have a backup plan for when Gibson decides he wants out. Arizona would get a 1st and 2nd and a mid-six and cap space for a Kessel buyout for a Gritty young fourth-liner and a top 6 fwd they'd do that deal and by trading Mikhayev the Leafs would then open a roster spot for Robertson?

Nylander ain't leaving? and Anaheim have Drysdale coming up and a great amount of defensive depth available and like I said the Ducks can gain the same draft picks for a Josh Manson as well to the right team? also people underestimated how much Kapanen was worth a year ago and he fetched a 1st from Rutherford? Bob Murray isn't a stellar GM either so the Valuation is fair and Anaheim doesn't have to resign him and they could free up 5 mil in cap in a year's time when the FA class is alot better with Talent for Anaheim to take advantage of?

What team wouldn't trade its starting goalie for a slightly better team's #7 defenseman?

Rebuilding teams that are more than one season away from contending seriously for at least one playoff round win don't need an expensive one-year rental. We might trade you Sam Steel to replace Alex Kerfoot at #3C and maybe a quality LD defense prospect (because they're cheap, which is a major concern for the cap-strapped Leafs) and maybe our 2021 third (the 65th overall selection in this year's draft), but that's about the limit of interest I see us having in Rielly. For this season we have Cam Fowler and Hampus Lindholm on that side, plus Haydn Fleury whom I'm sure management want to give a very long look, so Rielly is duplicative as well as expensive.

You better hope no Detroit guys see this.

And if one of my esteemed Anaheim colleagues suggested that Rickard Rakell and Josh Manson together would get us Detroit's sixth overall pick in this year's draft, I would scold him severely.

The fact that you believe Vitek is the Capitals starter over Samsonov absolutely boggles my mind!

Detroit has no great defensive players locked down. Manson would get that 2021 6th Overall pick so easily it's not even funny. Detroit fans want the team to get back to contention so badly it's not even funny maybe they could take Rielly off our hands for Bertuzzi and then take Manson away from Anaheim for that 6th Overall that would be a complete overhaul to the Detroit D Core.

He sure was this year. Next year might be up for grabs. I don't know. But I'm not sure Dermott is a better long term fit than Fehervary or Alexeyev, if the Caps open up an LHD spot somewhere behind Orlov, Dillon, Chara, and Kempny. I think Dermott is probably more established than Nardella or Johansen, but not enough to justify the buried cap hit.

Chara is probably back in Boston this offseason? Orlov or Dillion might be claimed by Seattle? They'd need a cheaper option at D if they are looking to either pay Ovi again or Sign better talent to place around Ovi and this team. It makes sense but at the same time no sense because you'd have the money to then sign Vitek so? yeah Darts on a dart board

Orlov and Carlson are 100% protected from expansion. Dillon could get picked. Kempny could stay on LTIR another year. Chara could leave or retire. Fehervary and Alexeyev would still be younger, more skilled, and more waiver exempt with more team control than Dermott. You're right that the Caps could have to cut salary by losing more good playes, to make other changes, but... they're all set at LHD.

Vanecek offers that are getting accepted by Caps fans on here are, like, Der Arg and a 2nd, or Liljegren and a 2nd. Because of team needs. Dermott is good and should have plenty of trade value somewhere.
