According to an recent interview my sister found, they had decided to let him speak to teams after the worlds performance, then Kirk and the GM had a discussion and whatever he said there impressed enough for them to decide to sign him after all, with the plan to see how he fits in to the system and develops in the AHL.

However it goes from here, this is great news for the hockey community here in the UK!

For those who don't know, Perlini's dad was still a Canadian citizen at the time of his birth. Thus, he's considered Canadian, just like how Mikhail Grabovski is considered Belarusian and not German.

Something else I just learned is that the player's history prior to juniors also plays a role. Perlini played most of his pre-junior hockey in Canada, while Kirk played it in England.

This same reason is why Wojtek Wolski is not considered Polish for international purposes.

as a brit so proud of him, been following his progress in the ohl since he was drafted i really hope he makes it and gives hope to all the u.k kids they can do it with some hardwork, sheffield is one or two of the only places in u.k. that looks after there junior hockey players properly, crazy most junior players get only 1 hr a week training in the u.k. thats why you wont come across many getting drafted at all

So from what I have heard they have signed him to his ELC to make him easier to move should they still decide to do so

I doubt they will move him but things can change on the fly

especially when you consider 2 days ago they gave him permission to talk to other teams

I always find it interesting that the Canadian-born Perlini brother plays for GB internationally, and the British-born brother has played for Canada... (I vaguely recall hearing that Brendan had contacted Kirk when he got drafted as he was with Arizona at the time and his brother obviously knew him already)

That is true, but he is considered Canadian for international purposes. He has represented Team Canada before and cannot play for Team GB.
