As a Wings fan, ok. 1st.Philly fans will say no. They don't seem to value the CAP space with dumping his contract. His 2nd line status is being taken by York. They should be thankful they don't have to pay more. As for the return. I see it as 2 winger that I would give much hope for. The one guy is 5'8". The other is ranked as their 10th best prospect. Then going from 4th to 3rd isn't much of a difference. Why do you like those two prospects?
We would be taking on an extra 8.5 mil CAP difference by taking him on and moving cholo.
Do you think Gostisbehere just needs a change of scenery?

I agree this is pretty bad for Philly.

Hard pass from Philly. Brink is a solid prospect, and O'Brien has struggled but still has that 1st round potential. Admittedly don't know much about Cholowski but I can't imagine he's much of an upgrade over Ghost.

Cholowski isn't really an upgrade. He is a former 1st rounder who has had less production than ghost. The guy who proposed those players must like them or something. The main purpose of the trade from a Philly point of view would be to clear CAP space. Your not going to get value for Ghost. He is getting beat out of his 2nd line status by York. He won't be protected in the expansion and probably won't be taken. Why?
Because nobody wants to pay 4.5 mil for 2 years for a 3rd line Defenseman. Cholowski would cost you a out 2 mil over the next 2 years. Ghost about 9 mil. Would you take a little less production on a 3rd line to save 7 mil?
You have players who in the near future will want new contracts with a pay increase. If you don't trade players like Ghost than affording the others will be tough. So why would a other team give you fair market value?
The real question is what are you willing to give up so someone will take him off your hands?
