this is just proof that the 2012 draft is bad lol

2 franchise goalies and 5 elite defenseman. So bad

5 is pushing it, you could maybe say 3. And there’s only 3 top line forwards from entire draft. A lot of drafts can be judged by how they started, and this one started with a bust, 2nd pair D, spare forward, and a bust. Easily the worst top 4 in recent memory, gotta go back to the mid-90s before there’s even a discussion to be had about a worse first 4 picks.

Rielly is elite. Slavin is elite. Parayko is elite. Lindholm is the most underrated defenseman in the NHL and Matt Dumba deserves a chance to be a top pair guy. Who cares about which names were selected first on draft day. The quality of a draft class is determined by the quality of its best players, not its earliest draft picks

Forwards are weak, but Hertl, TT and Forsberg are the kinda guys everyone wants to have

I agree on those 3 guys of course, and would even be willing to put Lindholm in that category. You realize that having 9 players that play top line/top pair/starter isn’t great for a draft right? 2015 had that many stars by pick 16. 2016 guys are still developing and they already have more stars. 2012 has a little more high end talent than you might expect, but it’s still not great and it also has no depth (they have a lot of overpaid third pair D though, so good for those guys I guess). It was a dud year when compared to other drafts. Which is fine, there’s gotta be bad drafts to appreciate the good drafts. This entire draft has 0 point per game seasons. And only 4 30+ goal seasons with all their guys well into their prime.
