Does it make sense

Description
Pitt trade inspired from Mr_Gardoki. I feel these are cap in cap out compromises that might make sense. Fill needs of Oil and perhaps the other teams (veteran backup in Chicago for a year in Koski, getting some potential depth scoring if Connolly rebounds - 1 mil savings but on the hook for another year, and then bottom 6 grit in Pitt that Burke definitely likes, in exchange for a contact a year longer in Petterson and more expensive than Kass but a really essential support at LD with Klef's career unknown).

As a pens fan it’s the right idea to trade Petty for a tougher forward. But a tougher forward that has skill and isn’t a cap dump. I think Edmonton would have to add here to get the pens to consider this. And idk if Edmonton would be willing to add. Petry is a top 4 dman that finished the year strong and had a great playoffs.

We talked about this in the other thread, but I don't think EDM would really have to add much and I'm sure some Oilers fans will think the Pens need to add lol, but I think whatever tweaks needed to make it happen would be minor.

That Pittsburgh trade seems like a joke. Really a bad one.

I wouldn’t do that pitts trade from oilers perspective. Russell is on a one year deal and is a great guy to have around in the event of an injury. Kass hasn’t been as good since signing his new deal but that’s a contract worth holding he’s the type of guy that can easily prove his worth in one playoff series removing him also only leaves archie as our physical presence upfront and I love archie but he’s undersized to be the only real guy throwing his weight around. Petterson has 4 years left at a higher cap hit and will be surpassed by players currently in system much faster and bigger problem if klef does return. Klef at 80% his former self still beats him out. I’m definitely against that idea I do understand and respect the mindset behind it.

I get where you're coming from. I think a lot hinges on the future of Kelf with oilers. Petts is definitely far superior to Russell and signed to a fair contract. He's also still young. I don't know how soon Broberg is from being a staple, but obviously a lot of "what ifs" that need to play out to see what your need is.

Fair. Best fit price wise, but there are other options. Saad and Hyman would cost more requiring maybe signing a guy like Haula instead of Tatar for the cap to be the same as here.

This is the thing I like about it. Petterson is paid maybe a bit too much for a year longer than I'd like, but this would be really good for next season (Broberg should go to AHL, and Klef should not be rushed back until truly healthy and strong). Can't see Petterson not being positively useful on the 3rd pair with 2nd pair spot duty until about 2 years from now, when he'll only have a couple years left anyway, and Klef's contract will be up.

Only if Stan needs Cap flexibility. if we don't need to flexibility then I would decline and we can still trade Connolly at the next deadline and he will actually have impact in the bottom 6 for us.
