Moves 2

Créé par: Quillanrocks
Équipe: 2021-22 Jets de Winnipeg
Date de création initiale: 14 juin 2021
Publié: 15 juin 2021
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
A lot of similarities to the initial "Moves," but some significant changes, too.

Predicated on the same deal with Detroit that sees Copp leave, the Jets opt for the usual 7-3-1 protection scheme in their approach to the expansion draft.

PROTECTED
F - Scheifele, Connor, Ehlers, Wheeler, Dubois, Lowry, Appleton
D - Morrissey, Pionk, Demelo*
G - Hellebuyck

* There will be much debate about this selection. I feel the Jets opt to protect Demelo over Stanley, not only for his value to this team, but also for what it would say if they didn't. Demelo agreed to remain with Winnipeg as a UFA, and it's a worthy visual to the rest of the league that the Jets show loyalty to those who commit to their organization.

Rationale - - Negotiations with Copp hit a wall. . . . Jets are not in his long-term plans and with that clarity, Winnipeg decides to trade him for assets that might help them negotiate with Seattle for Expansion Draft Considerations. (Additionally: Namestnikov is a player that Winnipeg has shown previous interest in, and it gives them an additional forward whom meets expansion requirements, allowing them to protect Appleton.)

Rationale - - The Capitals get younger and some much needed cap space. While things haven't worked out for Niku with the Jets, he still has potential as a very capable puckmover. The Jets receive a solid d-man for the season who has proved valuable in recent playoffs. Having missed all of last season, the Jets are hoping he is motivated to seize a new opportunity, play the steady game that he can, and earn a nice new contract.

Yeah it is a very fair deal, Copp is easily worth a 2nd. I’d argue if he was signed he’d be worth a 1st. The perfect Swiss Army knife.

Anyways as for the post, I never even considered that fact when it comes to protecting demelo. You’re likely right that they’ll go in that direction as Jets management is a very loyal group. I’m sure there will be some sort of side deal with seattle to have them take Harkins over Stanley and Berdin.

no heinola? I’m pretty sure he’ll make the team this year. Maybe scratch the WSH deal, use the extra money and grab Martinez over Larsson. Martinez can play both sides I believe.

Not only does this protect Stanley, but also berdin.

I’d make that deal to keep those two safe.

Wings pass, not trading a 2nd for a guy that doesn't help our rebuild and that we would have to protect in expansion

I totally forgot about Berdin! Thanks, I'm gonna make a quick edit to the trade conditions!

Yeah, a lot of people like Martinez for the Jets. I think he'd be great, but I like Larsson's age and physicality (actually think the Oilers would be nuts toilet him walk, TBH), and I just thought the odds of signing him seemed more likely. Martinez might like life in the southwest (LA and Vegas) too much to even give Winnipeg a moment's thought!

From what I understand he just didn’t want to play him on his off side, and wasn’t overly impressed enough to push Stanley or Forbort out of the lineup. Now after this summer, likely will not bring back Forbort, so there’s his spot in the top 4 on his strong side. They just need to find the right partner for him now!

Likely right about martinez. I wouldn’t mind Larsson, but to me he’s just a #4 who blocks shots and plays the PK. Not sure I’d like to see him on the top pair with Morrissey. Maybe a pair of Heinola and Larsson would work though.

I really really like Andrew Copp, but I don't think he is on the plans for their rebuild and especially not at the expense of a second round pick. Only way I think it makes sense for Detroit is if they give a third and are able to flip him to another team for more or something that fills a need.

To be faaaiiiir . . . ( I just had to get that in there! )

What quality forwards are you in such dire fear of losing if you protect Copp? I assume that means you don't think Yzerman protects Namestnikov, otherwise Copp just takes his spot. (?) Anyway, fair enough. You don't see value in the player I offered. Copp is a solid middle-six center/winger who can slot in anywhere and is a top penalty killer. I am confident in that return for him.

One last question, though . . . Yzerman does plan on icing a roster that isn't made up of 50% cast-offs at some point, doesn't he??? I mean, feel free to enjoy the Staals and the Fabbris and the Ryans and all the rest, and keep piling those draft picks to take a lot of those bad contracts from teams, but at some point you figure he's gotta balance the prospects by having a few more legit NHLers to play with. (No disrespect intended to the ones you do have, of course.) 22 draft picks in the next 2 drafts, I think the rebuild is safe!!!

You're still not over the 1996 playoffs. I get it. The salt is real. Yzerman has been GM for 2 years. He's still cleaning up Holland's mess. He's not a miracle worker. But the Jets are in great shape with Paul Maurice. Good luck with that. 👍

Honesty I like copp and for a contending team this makes all the sense in the world. I just am following what yzerman says, believe in him and his philosophy. This is a slow rebuild, no short cuts, building through the draft with lots of darts. In a year we will have a lot more nhl talent and will be better, seider, raymond, berggeron, mcissac, zadina, veleno etc. Just think it's premature to start giving up high picks at this time.

Hey, I mean no disrespect to Yzerman. Top 5 GM in the NHL, hands down. Just forget all the Copp ideas for a minute, and the Jets. It's just a general question . . . would you not like to see Yzerman start to surround and insulate his young players (and the ones that are on the way) with more permanent, "part of the plan", NHLers? Because beyond Larkin, Bertuzzi, and Vrana (brilliant trade, btw!) I just don't see them. Svech, Zadina, Rasmussen, Erne are still "in development." So many others are largely journeymen or look to have one foot on retirements doorstep. I love what you have coming up the pipeline . . . Raymund and Seider are particularly brilliant. (Absolutely hated when Yzerman surprised us all in drafting Seider . . . honestly hoped upon hope he would fall to the Jets that draft!) Anyway, if I were you I'd be disappointed if just some of that draft capital isn't used to improve the team around your great young future. But that's me!!

But hey, keep throwing your barbs about the Jets rather than entertaining an objective look at your team, if that suits you better. Whatever

This isn't a bad deal for Detroit but it does mess with the expansion draft.

Namestnikov is the player Detroit would like Seattle to take, with him gone we'd have to pay Seattle to take someone like Pánik instead and that wouldn't be free.

I have a hard time seeing how that circle can be squared without costing too much for Detroit. With players like Tyler Johnson available, that would bring assets with him instead of costing us, as another option I'd have to pass on this.

Whatever

Copp would be a great piece to have on the wings, if we were ready to contend. Until some of the bad money is out and these prospects develop, Copp's value isn't that high for Detroit. Get better returns from teams wanting to compete, buy the time Detroit is on the situation, Copp won't be worth having anymore unfortunately.

I'd pass as well a 3rd and Namestnikov is fair.

I also agree with this, I thought from the start that the Namestnikov signing was solely for the expansion draft. So losing him would really mess that up a bit. But I wouldn't be opposed to trading for Copp as to flip him for more to a different team by maybe retaining some salary or at the deadline when teams have a bit more space.

Out of curiosity, which players do you see Detroit protecting, and who are you afraid the Wings will lose? I know there's been chatter that Stecher is at risk on D, but that doesn't change unless you go the 8 skater route, so . . . . . Interested to know
