As a Leaf I would do Matthews for Scheifele. Both have three years till UFA. Matthews is better but would love to have 5.5m in additional cap space.

Copp and Lowry will be protected by the Jets. Appleton or Stanley will be selected so no need to add Berdin or the pick

Forwards (7): Wheeler, Scheifele, Ehlers, Dubois, Connor, Lowry, Copp
Defense (3): Pionk, Morrissey, DeMelo

Goalie (1): Hellebuyck

For both I think it starts at Ehlers, Hellebuyck and Morrissey. Mostly because neither team needs to or wants to trade the player AM or LD.

This is what I came to say as well. Copp & Lowry will be protected. You either lose Appleton or Stanley...not Appleton/Stanley + 3rd rounder + Berdin.

Let me add to this.

Neither of these teams have a reason to trade these players.
The only way they would is if it’s an insane overpayment.

At that point you’re not making your team better.
