It's at a point now that it isn't worth the argument anymore. Ignore it and move on because they just don't know Yzerman very well. The only cap dump he has taken in more than 10yrs as a GM was Staal and at the time he took a 2nd for him Detroit did need a LHD. Cap dump or not Staal played in all 56 games and averaged over 18 minutes in ice time. The only skater with more total minutes was Hronek. So I just wouldn't expect Detroit to take on too many cap dumps. Now personally I'd take on a couple cap dumps but since we are looking at a flat cap until the NHL's HRR exceeds $4.8B for consecutive seasons. So we have at least 2 more seasons of flat cap which will raise the price of a cap dump.

Honestly I wouldn't be shocked to see Stevie flex some of Detroit's financial muscle to take on a few bad contracts in exchange for picks. Wings are going to have a hilarious amount of cap space this year while teams like Cannucks, Leafs, and Isle will be pressed right up against the ceiling. But yeah, Detroit ain't taking that pile of hot garbage

Why we trading a RHD who can play top pair for a 3rd line winger that’s probably just another Kassian?

I don’t think you’ve seen much of Debrusk. He’s a top six player on most teams. This year was tough for him and then Boston got Hall so he was forced into the bottom six.

Comparing him to Kassian is honestly crazy. Debrusk can skate backwards faster than Kassian can skate forward lol. DeBrusk
can play on the powerplay and penalty kill no problems. Kassian career high in points was 36 (with McDavid) and he’ll never get close again. JD had two 40+ season already and has a ton left in the tank.

I think you're gonna wanna have an explanation ready for the Detroit guys when they show up.

Accurate. Valid. And warranted, that trade is garbage.

Lol oh wow an AHL defenseman + a 2nd and 3rd to eat almost 14M dollars over two years how could Detroit ever resist

I honestly don’t get the logic of some of these posts. And then people think we ask for the moon… Cmon people. How Detroit eats the contracts of 2 players well past their prime, one who constantly spends majority of their time at the top of capfriendly’s buyout list and has multiple years left with a high cap hit… for a 2nd, 3rd, and another useless depth plug who takes up a contract slot… Ridiculous

I was hoping he would take a couple last season. This season I think he should and I hope he does.

Clifton is gone on July 21st and Lyle has one pro season under his belt. Anyways, Bear would cost too much unless Holland do another Athanasiou for 2 2nds trade.

SEA isn't taking Clifton in expansion. There will be better options available

A mid-to-late 1st, Broberg, then four B-list-at-best futures and having to take on Kassian's contract? That package wouldn't pass muster for any one of those players, let alone all three together. (Yes, we do value Merzlikins quite highly, thank you.)

Cliff is a 6/7. I know fans love him, but he's only good in small stretches, then plays over his had and ends up scratched. Lauzon is already better than Clifton, gets tougher match-ups and plays on the PK.

Wagner and Kuraly played regularly, doesn't mean they should just like Lauzon in the top4. That's Cassidy's decision because #55 is defensive-minded and they prefer Grzelcyk/Reilly/Zboril for the offense. He'll probably be a career 6/7 like you said about Clifton. Hope to be wrong but he will need to move the puck better if he wants to be a top4 D.

Also, 5% chance Seattle take Lauzon.

What does Wagner and Kuraly have to do with Lauzon? Btw that "defensive minded" dman had 1 more point than Clifton and one less than Zboril. At worst Lauzon is a #6 & PK specialist. Until he broke his hand he didn't look out of place in the top 4.

I'd be shocked if SEA takes Clifton. I still think Boston Exposes Ritchie and that's who SEA takes.

What is oilers fans obsession with trading junk for debrusk?

1) DeBrusk is a third line player, and Bear is a legit top 4 D-man & we've already discussed this. ( I also understand that Bos doesn't need a RHD) this is beside the point.

DeBrusk is a 3rd line player who's Qualifying offer is going to be 4.8 million thats TO QUALIFY HIM - Now, explain to everyone if you honestly beileve your going to sign him at 5M a year fo a 33 point average scorer!!!!!!

I can guarantee you Bos will be eating or flat out walking away from DeBrusk from his contract!

Debrusk will be traded, but Bos will be taking back a loaded contract to make this work and the player will most likely be no better than a 3rd line player.

Hard facts.

Facts....
Kassian is 3rd fastest on the Oilers a team that includes McDavid.

Facts....
DeBrusk qualifying offer is going to be around 4.8 million.....For a player who is a 33.5 point per year player!

Facts - DeBrusk is a 3rd line player.

Facts

There is a solid chance that Bos ether walks away from DeBrusk or literally gets whatever they can from him.

Fact

The coach seen so little in DeBrusk defensive game he benched him......weird that a coach benches this PKer.

Fact

Boston devalued anything left in this tank.

You've under valued all your trades & you've heard from the Boston fans that the B's don't need a RHD man but they will require wingers or LHD D-man or future centers.

Also, you have players in your lineup that should be in the AHL for CAP room or they simply don't belong in the NHL (McLeod)

Good read on your team though.

I think its preposterously unlikely that he gets traded, mostly because his value is at an all time low. Prior to this funky season, he had a two season stretch where he scored at a 28 goal pace. You don’t just ditch a guy like that because he had a down season in a year with a shortened off season and no pre season.

The point about boston not needing RD (fyi, bear is not top four in a solid d group) is not beside the point. Contending teams don’t make trades purely based on value.

No Offense but do you make your own numbers up?

16-27-19-5 is 16.75 average not 28.
what and if is not how you value NHL hockey players. Sorry it doesn't work that way.

Bear's number are a legit top 4 D-man his TOI says so. https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/b/bearet01.html for you to compare 2nd paring D-man.

Your still ignoring a massive issue and that's DeBrusks QO - it's going to HAVE TO BE 5M - He's NOWHERE near a 5M player. Suck it up. it's a fact.

You maybe right but I disagree completely. DeBrusk has been in the league for four years. I would say he’s had three good years and one down year that was during a pandemic. You can judge this season as a step back but I don’t think you can write him off.

DeBrusk is a third liner because Marchand and Hall are on the roster. Not sure how many left wingers on other teams in the league could jump over them in the lineup. On Edmonton for example he would probably be their best left wing (with Ryan and Leon being considered centres). So I don’t think calling him a third liner is correct.

Try re-reading the post that you quoted. The numbers are accurate.

Bear played under 18 minutes a night last season. And you’re saying some make numbers up? Yeesh.

What a bad asset management if they leave Ritchie exposed for Frederic.

But again Lauzon looked fine in the top 4 until he broke his hand lol.

How is leaving Ritchie exposed bad asset management? The guy look good early was feasting on the 1PP and then regressed all year long. Even with PP1 looks and playing in the top 6 a decent amount, he was still only on pace for 37pts in an 82 game season.

Much rather Have JDB in his natural LW position which mean Ritchie is either 3RW (which he's worse on his RW than DeBrusk) or he's your 4LW. Let's be honest your not going another year of JDB-Coyle-Ritchie, so that really leaves 4LW. Frederic can play 4LW and is cheaper than Ritchie is.

Trade Ritchie and sell high. Second best pts/GP of his career and career high in goals. NHL GMs also overrate big wingers so it's a great opportunity to add a pick for a team that needs it. You can get something for him instead of letting him go for nothing to Seattle. Low 2nd to mid-3rd. Frederic doesn't have that value. Hence why you protect Ritchie over Frederic (or trade him before the draft, it's even better)

Sell high? The guy was essentially a non-factor in the playoffs and did a good amount of his damage during the regular season again non-playoff teams. 60% of his goals this year came between BUF/NJD/PHI and 65% of his total points came vs those same three teams. In total for Ritchie this year....

vs. Non-Playoff teams - 34GP / 11G / 8A / .56 PGP
vs. Playoff teams - 24GP / 4G / 3A / .29 PGP

And you're right GM's overrate big wingers, which is what you hope SEA does too.

His playoff performance doesn't matter much. An 11-game sample size doesn't outweigh a 56-game season. GMs don't care either if he scores goals against bad or good teams. Seattle selecting him means we lose him for nothing, trading him = get a pick in return. It's obviously the better choice.

playoff performances don't matter much? How many guy see their stock go up because of a good playoff run? It happens every year, so the opposite is also true.

Honestly seems like we just value Ritchie differently. We got Nick Ritchie for Danton Heinen....Ritchie's value isn't really any higher than it was when we traded for him.

No offense, but do you just read what you want to read?

Try re-reading the post that you quoted. The numbers are accurate.

Bear played under 18 minutes a night last season. And you’re saying some make numbers up? Yeesh.

What would a 2nd pairing D-man play?.......Get a clue.1st pairing are anywhere from 22-26 minutes! I left the damn link up for you to check! and check his comparables. Duh!
2nd pairing are 17-20
1st pairing - 22-26
2nd pairing 17-20
That's 46 minutes the other 14 minutes +or- is for the 3rd pairing.
Nice try though.

Lol okay chief. 2nd pair guys play at very least 20. Usually north of that.

The first part of my post was in regards to you just entirely skipping over what i said about debrusk, and making up something i didn’t say.

Btw, bear was 150th in TOI this season. 5th on the oilers. Womp womp
