Buffalo passes, and without Eichel this team goes from top-heavy with potential down to just outside the playoff picture, meaning Ovechkin doesn't sign, and the top line has Calvert, Faksa, and Oshie. So maybe don't do the other stuff, even if as a Caps fan, it'd be fun.

Another Contract that counts towards the 50 max. We have a lot and lets be honest, Lafferty was just a filler in this transaction. We have plenty and plenty and just when you think we have enough we get more bottom 6 forwards so Lafferty is not a requirement of this trade.

We have plenty of Cap to absorb the contract, its the sheer number of players under contract that is where we are filling up quick.

Stan has openly discussed absorbing a bad contract for pick/s and/or prospect/s. (Zucker is not a cap dump, I'm just referencing what our GM has mentioned)

Capfriendly says Chicago has about 4 million in cap space. That’s taking into account that 2 of the 4 goalies up will get sent down and probably have a couple d and couple forwards get sent down too.

If you go a little deeper, we have 2 guys retired on LTIR and some cap coming off the books at years end which won't be renewed, namely Zac Smith and the cap retention of previous trades. We should have approx 10m in cap space come start of next year. If we move big Z and/or DeHaan we will have even more.

Yeah that was taken into consideration. But whether you move Z or not you still have Suter and Hagel that will likely get a healthy contract. Z will get a decent contract if not moved. It’s gonna be hard to move DeHann. I doubt any team in a flat cap world is going to jump to help Chicago out.

Even with them (DeHaan and Z), we still hold ~10m cap space heading into next year. As you say with the flat cap I don't think they will get as much as what is originally thought and no arbitration assists that.
