Why would the OIlers trade a 1st with Neal to cap dump and retain half his salary? Just buy him out at that point....

Be foolish for Vegas not to extend their Cup window without being eligible for expansion casualties. They need to make things happen with a Cap crunch coming.

Tanev, Kerfoot are expansion fodder unless traded. Oilers are desperate to create cap space and the Pens need to win now with Malkin's last year before UFA. Vegas has always been bold. I dont see how they dont go after JE. They'll need assets. Picking up drafts picks from the likes of the Pens and Oilers would be ideal.

An Eichel trade starts with Tuch and Hague...otherwise you might as well save your time.

Do the calculations buyout costs 8 million spread over 4 years.

This trade costs 5.6 million over two years

2.4 million in space is quite a bit for a mediocre pick in 2021. Marleau's 4 million went for a better pick and was only for 1 year. This is 4 years spread out. More than reasonable

Smith looks to be available as Vegas was trying desperately to move a winger last Summer. Even heard MaxPac's name out there. Seems like a win-win trade for Vegas/Toronto. Kerfoot would fit in well in Vegas as center depth. Toronto doesnt lose Kerfoot for nothing in expansion. Smith is a really good complementary player that shoots a ton. I doubt Seattle would take him as he's older and if they do take Reilly Smith, no loss either way.

The difference is Toronto saw themselves as legitimate cup contenders and expectation was that pick would be in the high 20s (they figure they'll win a round sometime) and saw it as worth it to buy the cap space now. Holland has been preaching patience, building a contender first, and picking and choosing when you go all in. The Oilers aren't currently on the level where they trade a 1st to try and push them over the top, still stocking the cupboards by drafting our first rounders so that when that day comes (hopefully in a year or two), they have talented players on ELCs coming through to supplement the team. They have enough cap space opening up right now that they don't dump their 1st unless it's for more significant relief.

The difference being is a flat cap world.

You asked me why i told you salary cap savings. You clearly talked before realizing buying him out was more expensive and extensive.

Now you are moving the goal posts to say its not enough savings lol every dollar counts in 2021! You were wrong, just admit it. This is why i rarely visit this place, ppl cant admit when they are wrong and convos go in circles.

This just in: guy who claims ppl can't admit when they're wrong and that's why he doesn't go on this site is wrong and won't admit it... Here is a more detailed explanation.

In the trade you propose: Oilers pay $2.875million for 2 years for a total of $5.75million
In a buy-out scenario: OIlers pay $1.917million for 4 years for a total of $7.667million

In your trade scenario, the Oilers would actually have an additional cap hit of $960k per year in years 1&2 before saving $1.917million in years 3 & 4. Overall they save $2million but are in the red for 2 years, at break-even after year 3, and save after year 4.

In no world is that worth a mid-late 1st round pick.

Step 1: Accuse people of not admitting they're wrong.
Step 2: Get proven wrong with math.
Step 3: Call them a troll and block them.

You can’t have Eichel without trading Lehner or Fleury

Heard the same nonsense last offseason about Schmidt being dealt*
