Thing about bonuses is that they can be deferred to next year's cap if necessary. You don't have to eat them all at one time. Also, running Aho and Hickey is only a first-half-of-the-year kind of thing. Easily fixable at the deadline.

I remember when Carolina had questions about signing bonuses this offseason and whether they wanted to spread them over two seasons or just pay them for this year. Waddell and Co. chose to just take the full hits this year, but that kind of strategy depends on when most of your cap needs to be spent. Greene's bonuses would ideally be deferred some because Komarov/Hickey/Clutterbuck all expire right afterwards. I also think that Cizikas is the true driver behind that 4th line and they'll likely do anything they can to keep him unless Ladd truly cannot be moved.

Yeah I guess time will tell. Everyone on isles Twitter is under the assumption that the bonuses will definitely account for next seasons cap.

Will they try to sign him? Sure they’ll make an offer, but it’s already known cizikas will test free agency. One of the best rumor accounts said he will - but the isles have more imortant players to sign and they can always sign guys like Riley nash , Derek Ryan or Zajac for under 2 mill and go with a 4th line of dal colle-Ryan-clutter. I don’t think Martin will be a regular next season anyways.

The ability to spread bonuses over 2 seasons (aka dividing the bonus by 2) was only for last season.

You can defer bonuses to the following season, but only the season immediately following when they were earned. If you had any players on LTIR, the entirety of all bonuses earned that season MUST be deferred to the following season. Since the Islanders used LTIR in 2020-21, any and all bonuses earned this season will apply to next season's cap.
