As a Canes fan I can tell you we are probably out around 8 million. The free-agent market is probably out at 8.75-9. 10 million is overkill

It’s the Winnipeg tax. We have to usually offer 2 million extra to any free agent. No one would sign here otherwise

The issue is going to be timing with this off-season.

I agree that Hamilton is not WORTH $10M but to get him to WPG, that might be the price.

Issue is nobody can talk to Hamilton before the expansion draft list is locked. So clearing Copp’s salary to fit Hamilton or Stastny would be a known at the time Chevy submits his list.

Copp is better than Appleton or Stastny at this stage (next year, I might value Stastny higher than Copp, but not in year 2,3 or 4+)

I don’t hate this off-season, but I think the Jets will sign another 4th line minimum vet (trying to figure out which two, I think Zajac is a target if he keeps playing).

I would rather the Jets keep Copp and sign a different Top 4 D (Larsson, Martinez come to mind), or trade assets (one of Stanley, Ville, Samberg + other assets) and trade for a Top 4 D.

Medium term issue is that Morrisey is LD 1 or LD 2. The three prospects are all LD. So only 2 will play for the team over the next 3-5 years... which 2 are the issue...

Appleton then? Copp is more expensive
