If Vancouver needs to clear space do they take this offer? Since there isn't a lot of difference between 9 and 11 this year I am inclined to say yes.

Détails additionnels:
De Hann is a good player, but he is overpaid by about a million and gets hurt a fair amount. I think WPG might bite on this, its not a high acquisition cost and he is on a one-year contract. If they arent on track to make the playoffs he could probably be traded for even more than this at the deadline as well.

I don't see that as being enough to move up 2 spots in the draft. IMO VAN's in the absolute worst spot. I don't put Kent Johnson in that 1st tier of players because from what I've seen he's a 1-way player. A HECK of an offensive talent, but still a 1-way player. LAK will take Kent because they already have Byfield/Turcotte and a sniper in Kaliyev...so the playmaker is a natural fit. That leaves McTavish/Lysell/Sillinger/Lucius. So VAN is sitting there clearly in a tier 2 spot regardless and in the same boat as CHI.

Honestly I'm thinking of this as trading up to get the goalie. You could tell Vancouver that as well if it helps with the value as they can still get a decent forward at 11.

oh man...I don't want that at all. Jesper Wallstedt isn't anything close to as good as Askarov and goalies taken in the 1st round are actually LESS likely from a statistics point of view to be NHLers than goalies draft in the 2nd round. I'd rather take 3 goalies in the 3rd-7th and just allow them time to develop. Look at the shear number of rookie goalies last year that started in the NHL. Lankinen, Igor, Sorokin, Ned, Kahkonen, Vanecek. Literally ZERO of them drafted in the 1st. (3) of them drafted in the 2nd. (1) 3rd, (1) 4th, and (1) UFA.

***EDIT*** Also, from a cap management point of view...if you draft a goalie that high...you might have to pay him more than goalies are worth. ZERO goalies in the entire NHL deserve more the $7M a year. The position just doesn't warrant it.

I heard wallstedt was a pretty good prospect. I wouldn't mind the hawks taking him.

Taking on a 6M contract in this flat cap climate has to be worth A LOT more than 9 OA vs 11OA in a poorly scouted and unknown draft. The Hawks would be VERY dumb to make this trade. Carpenter is a meaningless contract to the hawks, they can just bury him for almost no cap hit if they wanted.

We have the cap space to make this trade without any problems coming because of it. In this post even with loui we have 8 million in space.

Whatever happened to Drew Commesso? He's a very decent prospect and no one is talking about that? Future Crow?
Jesper Wallstedt looks like one heck of a good prospect, but lets be real, Detroit will 100% grab him at 6 I bet. Or I could see them trading down a couple of spots and then get him. Although if he's available I bet SJ could grab him too. I'll be shocked if he's available at 11 or even 9. Chicago will have to trade to 3 or 4 to get him and that's not happening.
They will end up staying at 11 and probably grab the kid from the Steel.

He did fine in his first year at BU. Goalies are really tricky to predict though... It would be a good idea to have more than one good goalie prospect in the system. If both (in this scenario) pan out then you have a really strong core to build the team around. As for the draft part of your comment, we will just have to see.

If goalies are really tricky to predict...which I agree with. Why do you want to spend the #11 OA on a goalie? I also agree with you...we'll just have to wait and see. I just don't see the benefit in getting a goalie that high. Commesso will also be on the WJC team coming up so never a bad thing to get that experience.

Why do I want to spend number 9 overall on a Goalie? Because I want to get a elite goalie.

That doesn't mean you sell it for next to nothing. The trade just doesn't make sense when you can clearly get a lot more value

Something is better than nothing, sure if you can do better you should but I see no problems with this trade otherwise.
