Leafs Mystery Off-Season Target

Équipe: 2020-21 Maple Leafs de Toronto

Description
I’m just curious to see everyone’s ideas on who the player he had in mind was.

-American team
-Missed the playoffs
-Has term
-Fans will be excited to see play

Let me know if any of those are wrong, or if there’s more, I honestly didn’t watch or hear it so I don’t know everything. Just going off of what I’ve sorta seen on here.

Please put any other thoughts and ideas in the comments.

1.
ARI
    This is my first thought.

Has ties to Marner from their London days (Fun Fact: They, along with another friend, had their own cafe way back when)

Marner and Dvorak were co-captains of the Knights the year they win the memorial cup. Along with many other accomplishments for the two during that year alone.

Dvorak has a good net front presence on the PP (something the Leafs lack) as well as a pretty good two way game.
    2.
    PHI
Konecny is another guy that comes to mind.

Fun Fact again: Marner was the runner-up for the ohl rookie of the year award during his first season. The winner: Travis Konecny.

Konecny mainly comes to mind because of the details that were given and because of the trade speculation surrounding him.

Personally, I like Dvorak more, but I am probably biased towards him.

The phrasing of the player as 'big name/big promise' really doesn't it lend itself to Dvorak, but there aren't too many guys who fit that description and meet the rest of the criteria; at least not that I could see the Leafs feasibly acquiring without moving one of the big 4, which Johnston alluded to as being unlikely. I suppose it's possible if they move Rielly, but that left side gets thin really quick without a substantial player replacing him.

Only way i see Konecny being traded to Toronto is if Philly trades for Nylander. There's nothing in Toronto that interests Philly.

Timo Meier also fits that description. Wonder if it's him?

I’ll throw Tyler Bertuzzi’s name into the ring.

It was such a odd take by CJ- I have not heard the whole quote (the podcast is not my kind of thing), but with how certain he went on with the details, he must have a good idea who the player is. From this list I would definitely rank them Konecny, Meier, and Dvorak. I just don't know what you would give up for Konecny if no one in the top six is moving.

That’s a silly thought. I’m sure there is plenty of interest in Toronto’s young prospects. You certainly aren’t getting nylander. Pretty sure Holl would check some boxes for them as well.

Holl is a player Philly could trade for but he isn't the answer to our defensive problems. Prospects are not something Philly is interested at the moment because we are not rebuilding, we are contending so prospects make no sense for us right now.

I think they would be interested in players that are ready or close to. Robertson, Abruzzese or Abromov.

What I can say for sure is that it wouldn’t be a roster player in a one for one typically e deal. The leafs aren’t moving a player like nylander.

The problem is that our offense is stacked already so we don't need any forward prospects. Every position is stacked with prospects and roster players so Philly isn't looking to get even more of them. I would like to have Abruzzese but we already have so many center prospects like Frost, Laczynski, Brink and Foerster who are NHL ready/not too far from a roster spot. Almost same with Robertson except that we don't have as many prospects for our LW position but that position is stacked with roster players so it would be hard for Robertson to get a roster spot.

Konecny leaving should open up some space. We have plenty of defensive prospects as well. But in this instance I had mentioned moving Holl so I only included forward prospects.

Then who are Toronto's top defensive prospects? It would have to be RD because Philly already has plethora of LD prospects but not so many on RD.

Liljegren niemela would be the best two, 3 or 4 more younger rhd prospects as well.
