By my calcs, this leaves STL rougly 10 M of space after the deal.

with a ton of signings they need to accomplish Robert Thomas is up soon, O'Reilly will be up in a couple years. Colton Parayko in a year.

Doesnt matter if Blues can afford it! That deal as atrocious as it gets... so incredibly bad.

Perron is an expiring deal - not sure what value he has to the Blues long term with an aging core. Marner is by far and away the best player in this deal, Blais has almost no upside and is off-brand Hyman, and Kyrou has upside, but at best he flashed it with a hot start before being a non-factor in the second half of the season.

Deal makes a lot of sense once you view the Blues as a mid-tier team looking to move away from some of the aging vets (ROR, Tarasenko, Perron) and acquire a young star.

Guys like ROR aren't getting raises (worth more than 7.5???) at 32 years old. Parayko already gets 5.5 - how much of a raise could he be in for? Only really pressing ones might be Barbashev and Thomas.

I’m glad you asked with Kuemper I’d say a first an ACUTAL STARTER and a bottom 6 player who’d get more opportunity in Arizona and two thirds or a second

Kyrou should be getting more than that too. He would have to start min with a 2 at the front IMO.

Parayko was injured this year. Next year really shows, and 8 Million for ROR is probably still plausable. Thomas is a 5 Million dollar deal at least

So you just listed all the reasons why its a bad bad deal! Why the **** would toronto give away Marner for a bunch of scraps???? Zero logic to this slop!

1- Heh. I love when fans of one team explain how all the players they're trying to trade for from another team are actually pretty bad. Umm then why make the trade?

2 - Uhh no it does not in any way and the Blues are certainly not taking this silly attitude. The firm answer would be no. Obviously.

Not saying Perron is bad, his deal is expiring next year though compared to Marner with 4 years left on it. Kyrou is just about the only young Blue with upside, and I picked him because he's a right handed shot who could turn out to be something better but if he doesn't he's still cheap. Kyrou looked absolutely lost the second half of the year after looking like a budding star the first half.

Given the player the Leafs are giving up is undisputedly a 24 year-old superstar, the only real value here is Kyrou and a rental on Perron. Blais is just left wing roster filler. The real win in this deal for the Leafs is getting flexibility under the cap. Blues hands down 100% get the best players in this deal... Kyrou is one year younger than Marner and Marner already is an established PPG+ player while Kyrou isn't even a proven top-6 guy.

Perron is a cheaper player who can slot into Marner's role as a band-aid. Kyrou adds a bit of upside but most importantly keeps the structure of Right-handed shots who acts as playmakers for left shot centres. Blais because he's low maintenance and a warm body, and Leafs need warm bodies.

Real plus for the Leafs is the cap flexibility. For a rental, a 23 year old who had a semi-breakout year, and a guy (Sammy Blais), Blues get one of the premier offensive superstars in the league. Player for player, Blues get the best of the deal; Toronto has no shortage of talent but they're short on roster flexibility.

Look at what the extra cap space gets you: you can actually afford to sign guys, whether its bringing back Hyman, or dipping into the FA market and add a guy like RNH. With Perron up in 2022, the amount of cap space the Leafs would have after the season gives them even more flexibility to add pieces to compliment Matthews and Tavares.

Just have to note this but Marner has 228 pts in his last 196 games (3 seasons) and is 24, while Kyrou is in his first full season at 23 and 1 year of Perron (164 pts in last 184).

Marner is in a whole different league from both these guys.

You're right... he takes up twice as much cap as both players combined, and still wanks in the playoffs.
