Bjorkstrand just signed a 5 year extension in Columbus and his value is great so it’s not likely they are going to trade him.

That’s a rough trade for mn. Can’t imagine a scenario where they give up boldy and fiala together.

I honestly don’t want to se Minnesota go after eichel. They could spend that cap space much more wisely than on eichel, even if he would potentially put them over the top. I’d rather see them get a Dvorak or something instead of shooting for the moon and screwing up their build from within mindset

No chance cbj moves bjorkstrand for anything short of eichel. Jarmo would still probably have to sleep on it.

Yeah I gotta be honest, Buffalo isn't going to get a return like that for Eichel.

I know I'm in a bit of a minority here, but I would be willing to give up close to this for Eichel. I think if Fiala is the main piece, we likely wouldn't part with Rossi or Boldy, but if Boldy were swapped out for Khovanov or Beckman I would take that deal. Eichel is probably a 90-100 point center next to Kaprizov assuming he is healthy next season.

If it was beckman or khovanov I’d be more game. But also think that would be beat

You are probably right. I think ultimately we'll be outbid, but if they took Fiala, Dumba, Khovanov/Beckman, and a 1st I'd call that a win. I probably would still call it a win if a 2nd or 3rd were thrown in as a sweetener

Yeah but then we're a one line team, and right now you're watching one line teams like Boston and Colorado struggle against deeper teams like NY Islanders and Vegas. And the other "90-100 point centers", Crosby, McDavid, Matthews were all eliminated by teams that relied on more depth than one line of star players.

I wouldn't go that far, the GREEF line was fantastic for us and we'd still have Rossi and Boldy that would eventually play in the top 6.

For the first time ever a team has won a playoff series with a player who makes over 10m. This year it happened with Carey price. First time in cap era. I was very shocked to hear that stat. It’s one reason Boston has been so good for so long. Signing solid players into the 6-8m range long term young. Also why Toronto will never do anything

I don't think it's that shocking since the cap has raised every year except for this year. You have to look at percentages for a fairer comparison. The first year the Penguins won the cup, Crosby took up 12.18% of the cap (it was at $71.4M in 2015-2016 according to puckpedia). Eichel's deal currently takes up 12.26% of the cap which is not that far from Crosby's cap percentage during those cup winning years for the Penguins.

Edit: Also, not quite as close, but Kucherov ate 11.66% of Tampa's cap last year. A closer example is Ovechkin who ate up 12.72% of Washington's cap when the Caps won the cup in 2017-2018 which is more than Eichel's now. In fact, the only team of the last 5 cup winners who didn't have a player eating up more than 11.5% of their cap was the Blues (Crosby's was 11.92% in 16-17). You can absolutely win with Eichel's cap hit.
