why would philly take on that much cap? marner is a great player, but his cap hit is 2-3 mill over paid. no reason for arizona to trade on of thier best and consistent d-men for ufa to be and a bottom 4 defender.

Leafs gain cap space to sign dougie in the marner trafe so I’ll take that as a win, chychrun is better and younger and signed long term for less so I’ll take that trade especially since sandin and holl won’t have a top 4 role if chychrun and dougie r in Toronto

chychrun is only 23 and in the norris conversation so it doesn’t make sense to trade him for a 21yo who might eventually be a top pair blueliner. he likely sticks around through the rebuild. rielly probably walks in a year and the coyotes aren’t going to be competitive so he wouldn’t really interest them. philly likely declines due to cap issues, but if they figure that out they’d accept (maybe they deal giroux to ottawa 👀)

also dougie costs at least 1.5mil more than that

Philly had a disappointing season and will look for a change, they might slowly go away from physicality and go towards skill

very possible but I dont think they will be moving a 24 yr old physical scoring winger (minus this year but he had 3 20+G seaons) at 5.5M in a flat cap I dont think they will take on 10.9M contract even if marner is the more skilled.
They also have very little cap space with Sanhiem and Hart to resign so the extra 4+M won't help them.
I think they can move marner if they need to but they will have to take back cap/ I don't think philly is the right dancing partner.

for sure, they have to make changes but they can't afford to take on more cap with Sanhiem, Hart and Nolan up. if they can move Ghost contract then I think they might do this if they decide they want to move away from physical game and go to a more skilled one because marner is an elite playmaker.
