Logo de Hurricanes de la CarolineLogo de Maple Leafs de TorontoI still think the Leafs pick Rodion Amirov, only that they pick him two spots earlier at 13th overall instead of 15th overall. The #1 LW on the Leafs is Zach Hyman and there is a very steep drop-off to the #2 LW. A few players you often saw playing as the #2 LW this year with Tavares and Nylander was Alex Galchenyuk, Alex Kerfoot and Ilya Mikheyev. Mikheyev is not the type of player you need for crunch time during the playoffs. There is a lot of debate as to whether Kerfoot should be the #2 LW or the #3 C. Galchenyuk is basically a journeyman who finds himself scratched or on waivers too often as he plays for his next contract. Furthermore, I remember seeing a youtube video last year on the Leafs' official youtube channel where Dubas revealed the high level of enthusiasm that the scouting staff expressed for Amirov. Therefore, I think the Leafs would pick Amirov at 13th overall.
Logo de Oilers d'Edmonton-The Oilers still pick Dylan Holloway at 14th overall. He's an Alberta native, he can play at any forward position and he has the grit and toughness of a power forward at the highest levels of hockey. Also, the Oilers have almost no depth at forward, once you look past McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH and Puljujarvi. Very obvious choice to still pick Holloway at 14th, even with Seth Jarvis still on the board.
Logo de Maple Leafs de TorontoLogo de Penguins de PittsburghAt 15th overall, the choice for the Leafs is less clear. Some could say that the Leafs need to pick Western Canadian RD Braden Schneider and beef up the right side of their defence. However, Schneider wasn't picked until 4 spots later. Also, the Calgary Flames are a Western Canadian team that could use a blue chip RD prospect but instead of picking Schneider at 19th, they traded down three spots. So, it seems other teams in the NHL did not rank him in the top 15. Looking at other prospects, Seth Jarvis seems like an obvious pick, but the Leafs already have Marner and Nylander at RW. Also, Kaiden Guhle looks intriguing but the Leafs already have Reilly and Muzzin at LD. The other prospect that the Leafs should consider picking at 15th, with Amirov now in their back pocket, is Lukas Reichel. Reichel can not only play LW, but he can also play centre and the next player that the Leafs ended up picking in the 2020 draft after Amirov was a centre. Also, Reichel could be a backup option if neither Amirov nor Nick Robertson pan out at the NHL level. Reichel also excelled at the World Juniors for an inferior Team Germany and he is also good enough to play with grown men that are older than him in the German Elite League. After making their selection at 15th overall, the Leafs now have both Rodion Amirov and Lukas Reichel in their prospect pool.
Logo de Canadiens de Montréal-Montreal still picks Kaiden Guhle at 16th overall. The Habs already have Tyler Toffoli, Josh Anderson, Brendan Gallagher and the 15th overall pick from last year, Cole Caufield, as their prime right shot players who can play RW. They have no need and no appetite to pick yet another right shot RW like Seth Jarvis.
Logo de Blackhawks de Chicago-After Patrick Kane, there is no obvious #2 RW on the Hawks, aside from maybe William's younger brother Alex. However, it is unclear as to whether Alex Nylander is better suited as a #2 RW or a #3 RW in the NHL. Furthermore, it is growing increasingly more likely that as the picks go by, Seth Jarvis will become the best player available. Also, the team sitting on the 18th overall pick is the New Jersey Devils and they are intent on drafting a highly talented right shot RW. Your scouting staff tells you there is a significant drop-off between Seth Jarvis and Dawson Mercer and that if the Hawks don't take Jarvis at 17, the Devils will at 18. With the 17th overall selection, the Chicago Blackhawks are proud to select from the Portland Winterhawks: Seth Jarvis!
