I mean I feel like Chabot would be better defensively if he wasn’t strapped to some of the worst defensemen in the league (there’s a pretty good case for Gudbranson and Zaitsev being 2 of the 5 worst D in the entire league) for 26 minutes a night. And he’s the literal best offensive play driver among defensemen in the league. Chychrun’s not exactly stellar defensively either and his main draw is goal scoring from the blueline, which isn’t exactly a huge need for Canada given the strength of their forwards. A better playdriver who can headman the puck is probably preferred in that 3LD spot. Plus Chabot’s a hockey Canada guy, won best D at the WJC a few years ago, etc.
