All three better than him, he'd be in the same category as Kaprizov and Tkachuk.

Winnipeg Jets have re-signed Logan Stanley for 2 years, 900K AAV. Good deal. Assuming they settle things with Neal Pionk, their D is now Morrisey-Pionk, and then some combination of Dillon, Schmidt, Stanley and Demelo (the first 3 of those are lefties, so we'll have to see how they play things). Pretty solid upgrade from last year.

Some trades that almost happened:

At the 2015 draft, STL almost acquired Tomas Hertl and the 9th overall pick from SJS for T.J. Oshie and Kevin Shattenkirk. The trade aborted when SJS wanted Meier who was still on board.

In 2016, the EDM were planning to trade Taylor Hall 1-for-1 for Cody Ceci. They opted for Adam Larsson instead.

At the end of the 2006-07 season, DET were considering trading Pavel Datsyuk for Scott Gomez and other pieces, but they chose to keep and extend him.

Before the 2009 draft, VAN offered the 22nd overall pick, Alexandre Burrows and Kevin Bieksa to Tampa for the 2nd overall pick with the intention of selecting Victor Hedman.

I don't remember the exact details but when Puljujarvi fell to 4th overall in 2016 I believe Calgary offered Edmonton the #6 pick, Backlund, and Dennis Wideman for #4 and the 2nd rounder Edmonton used on Tyler Benson.

At certain points in the talks, both Columbus and Vancouver were also involved until the Jackets learned that the Canucks were dead-set on taking Dubois if he fell to them. With Edmonton's original target being Sergachev, the plan was for a three-way deal that saw Calgary select 3rd, Columbus 4th, and Edmonton 6th. Knowing that once Dubois was off the board the Canucks would take Juolevi, one has to wonder as to whether or not Tkachuk would have ended up in Montreal.

There's also a story about Dougie Hamilton being almost traded there from Boston, but Edmonton were not willing to include Nurse in the package.

My favorite trade that almost got through was the one in 2009 when Habs offered Carey Price, P.K. Subban, Max Pacioretty and 2010 1st round pick to TB for Vincent Lecavalier. Gainey, who was MTL gm back then, reportedly wanted a Beliveau like sizable French Canadian center to lead their team.

Not only was it real and both GMs were willing to do the deal, it was Melnyk that scrapped the deal because he couldn't literally afford to add Hall to the roster.

Don't remind me of that lol. The worst part is the Lighthing declining it. Lecavalier fell off a cliff one or two seasons later.

To be fair declining the trade got them players like Kuch, Vasy and Point, so in a sense it paid them back in a longer scale.
