Alright I need opinions on this mock trade.
Dallas gets: JVR 50% retained
Flyers gets: 2022 Dallas 2nd round pick and JVR’s contract completely off the books.
Buffalo gets: 2022 Dallas 3rd round pick, they retained half of JVR’s contract for the next two years.
Why this works for Buffalo?
They’re a team that won’t use the cap too much and is still a long way from competing so they get a 3rd round pick to help the re-build for 3.5 million of cap for the next 2 years. They also have 3 out of 3 retention spots open and the only two players that could get more than a 3rd retained are Olofsson and Miller, so that leaves one spot remaining which would be JVR.
Why this works for the Flyers?
They’ll need to get JVR’s contract off of the books for next year since they have Couturier, Giroux, Risto and Farabee to re-sign. The more they wait the more his value decreases so in return they get his whole contract off the books for a 2nd round pick which they could use to acquire a rental to replace JVR if they want to complete.
Why this works for Dallas?
They get their top 9 experienced scoring winger who’s affordable for the next few years for the same price they paid for Zucc who was 500k cheaper and was on a 66 point pace while JVR was on a 62 point pace, JVR has the extra year so that compensates it do that it makes them equal.
I need your guys opinions because as a Stars fan I can maybe be a little bit bias.
