NY State has worst tax climate in US.
Thousands are leaving, state spending rising.

New york City where there are additional city taxes yes and also business owners absolutely. Western New York has actually seen a bump in population recently. (Alot of NYC residents among them.) That being said the tax rate for an nhl player is actually higher in NJ than it is in Buffalo not by much. Cost of living is significantly less however. Dollars go further

You are assuming he would rather live in Calgary year round rather than elsewhere. The cost of living is extremely low in Buffalo as compared to other markets but that doesn't mean that all of their players want to leave herewhere their dollar does go further

Calgary may very well be in 2 years also when Jonny hockey is gone and Brodie, Tanev, Monahan, Backlund all start or continue their declines

So your saying 5 first round picks is not enough???? Are u crazy. I think is more then enough

5 first round picks? Talk about a disingenuous statement. Just because someone was taken in the first round, doesn't mean they are worth a first round pick. Neither Larsson or Thompson could return a pick in the first round. Then Kaliyev (who wasn't a first round pick) wouldn't be worth much more than a late first at best.

Also trades aren't made in a vacuum, you need to factor in the other teams needs. The Flames aren't rebuilding, so why would they trade one of their best players for futures?

This logic is illogical. Thompson & Larsson aren’t worth first rounders. If you actually believed this, I’ll tell you what Yzerman will trade you Svechnikov, Cholowski, & Rasmussen for Buffalo’s first rounder next year or this year.

Alberta has lower tax than most states in the US... especially since conversion rate favors them

Where are you getting these tax rates? Calgary is roughly effective tax rate @ 47.31% @ 5M. Detroit @ 42.91%, Vegas @ 36.29%, NY & Cali I’m sure are highest in the states, LA @ 49.08%, NYR @ 48.53% but then again it’s California & NY.

You still think Brodie plays for Calgary? Please stop pretending you know anything about them Flames. None of those guys are declining. Tkachuk is not getting dealt for futures. Gaudreau doesn’t want to leave, and has come out and said as much, notably without the usual non-committal hockey player caveats of “this is a business” blah blah blah. Just stop.

State taxes. Not counting city tax or property tax. NY is turning into Illinois.

Tax rate <> buying power. I’d also wager most NHLers don’t spend frivolously unless they’re Evander Kane. When I say frivolously in this context I’m talking about living paycheck to paycheck and spending in one location/source.

Regardless people dont choose locations because of taxes, NY is the highest taxed states and is a very common place for stars to want to go, Toronto too. I was not the one who brought up living conditions. I argued Tkachuk would walk from Buffalo because they are rebuilding, whereas Calgary is not

Freudian slip Giordano. Monahan and Backlund aren't declining and 2 years from now Tanev and Markstrom will be on the decline

The top tax rate in NYS is 10.3% for income between 5 qnd 50 million while in NJ it is 10.75% for anyone over 5 million
