I really don't know if Detroit would take Luke Hughes or Dylan Guenther. Hughes plays locally with USNTDP in Plymouth, Michigan (Detroit suburb) so he would have the most scouting certainty in this COVID draft for them. He fits an area of need (top pairing LHD) and has the size and speed they have been drafting recently.
Where as Dylan Guenther is a winger and Detroit has drafted wingers recently: Lucas Raymond (2020 #4) Filip Zadina (2018 #6), Jonatan Berggren (2018#33), Robert Mastrosimone (2019#54), Cross Hanas (2020#55). Plus Michael Rasmussen (2017#9) might be forced to the wing if Joe Veleno (2018#30) claims that 2nd line center spot.
I think the Wings would lean towards Hughes.
FYI though: Winnipeg and Montreal can't be at 17 and 19 respectively, since one will advance to the conference finals. That means the winner of the series gets to pick in the 28-32 range. Detroit moves from 24 to 23 and I really think they could use their excess draft capital to move up this year by bundling it with pick 23....especially if Sebastian Cossa or Mason McTavish slide towards them. Aatu Räty is another that could go higher--one bad COVID year might not hurt his stock as much as pundits think.
