Replacing Drouin with Hyman

Description
Drouin never comes back from his health issues and stays on LTIR for the remainder of his contract. Bergevin basically offers Hyman a deal that has the same cap hit as the Drouin deal. Personally I think it's an overpay, but I can 100% see a team (not just the Habs) offering this kind of cap hit to him, and he fits the mold (almost perfectly) to what Bergevin likes.

If Bergevin wants a more experienced Dman (very likely) instead of playing one of the kids (in this case I put Brook, but it can be Ghule, Norlinder, etc.), Let Armia walk as a UFA, and insert Perry or Poehling in the lineup, and sign a more experienced Dman using remaining cap space (roughly $4mil).

Potential (realistic) UFA D targets:

Goligoski
Murray
Oleksiak
Cole
Demers

Why, because you think mental health issues are just made up right? No investigation needs to be made, players don't sit out the entire playoffs for fun! Seriously bad comment buddy.

That's only relevant if Drouin sits out the season magically appears for the playoffs. Otherwise, that's a pretty awful comment.

No as someone who has dealt with depression his entire life I know it's real yet I get up and go to work every day even when I really just want to lock myself in a room and see no one. Besides from **** that happened when he was in Tampa Bay I'm pretty certain what those"mental health issues" are and I am sorry they should qualify unless he is in treatment.

Nothing magical about Kucherovs return time TB has had 2 players have the same surgery in the prior years knew the recovery time and had Kucherov delay the surgery until the timing was right .

Just because your mental health issues aren’t bad, doesn’t mean his aren’t bad. Everyone has it different. You have absolutely no idea what he’s going through right now, no one does except for him. So it’s pretty ignorant to say that there needs to be an investigation into it. He could be dealing with crippling depression, could have something to do with substance abuse and mental health. Not my place to speculate, but you need to understand that his situation could be really bad and we’d have no idea.

And if it is substance abuse he should be in a treatment facility or not on ltir. By the way not really bad depression I had a .357 in my mouth last November

Sorry, I wasn't disparaging Kucherov in particular and by all accounts he needed the surgery and clearly benefitted from a long and thorough rehab. Could he have played the last 10 games of the season? Clearly, he probably could have. But that is up to the team and the insurance company that covered his contract for the season. I was just saying that if Drouin were to miss a whole season and the Habs used the vacant cap space and then he "magically" turned up for Game 1 of the playoffs, it would warrant an investigation, too. Personally, I have a much bigger issue with the Hossa-type situations in which the loophole is used, as what player over the age of 35 doesn't have some nagging injury that could be used as an excuse for retiring?

But you said clearly he could have played the last 10 games really? When both Point and Gourde who had the same surgery rehabbed they were both 2 months from skating in practice to playing the exact same time as Kucherov big difference between skating line rushes without getting hit and playing an NHL game

I’m sorry you’re struggling. I know how you feel. I was just giving substance abuse as an example.

When I say investigated I mean he needs to be getting help if it's substance abuse he needs to be in a treatment facility if it's depression he really needs counseling because if he's just sitting home it's not doing him any good and then any player can just do it if he's on LTIR for mental health he really needs to be getting professional help otherwise it looks like a spoiled brat. Sitting at home won't make the situation better.

I don't think they would like to do it, but they would probably like it less if he was on Montreal, so Toronto matches that offer. Besides, even if Toronto goes less on salary, it still is not enough for him to move (increased taxes, better money outlets, team choice). They would do 5.

Does TOR really have the cap to sign him at that cap hit??? I know Freddy Anderson is coming off the books, but they still need to replace him and re-sign 7-8 players with only $12mil in cap space.

They could sign Hyman up to 5 million and still fill out a good roster. That's even without moving salary like Kerfoot.
