Description
Marner should be traded.

I'm not trying to single him out. Matthews has also horrid in the playoffs and deserves the blame as well. But you are always better off building your team around a centreman, and if they were to trade one of them, it needs to be Marner.

Why trade Marner? Well, the leafs have proved that handing out 11 mil to 3 separate players is not a good idea. The 33 mil the leafs spent on Matthews, Marner and Tavares got them 1 goal. 33 million for one goal is a horrible way to spend your money. Yes, I realize Tavares was injured, but good teams are prepared for injury. It does not matter that with Tavares the leafs would have won. If Marner was payed 7 mil for example (yes I know he's worth more than 7 mil, just let me finish), they would have enough money for a 4 mil player to add, and that 4 il player may have scored a goal, or prevented a goal, allowing the leafs to win the series.

33 mil on 3 players is risky, and it has yet to pay off for the leafs. They need to try something else. Columbus might want Marner because he is a superstar, and their superstars always want to leave.

    Hmm, that's a tough one.

Tavares didn't do any better than AM or MM, but he was injured. If he wasn't injured there a high probability they win the series.

At this point I don't know. It creates so many hypotheticals though, Kadri (would he be suspended and the leafs no better off), Muzzin (would he not be a leaf because they don't make the 2018-19 playoffs and therefore don't trade for him, Bozak or JVR (one would probably still be a leaf) that it's easier just to say trade Marner.

Agreed there is no point to live in hypotheticals but for me the root of the Leafs problems start with having over 40mil tied to 4 FWDs. And now we have to have decisions on trading a 90 point 24 year old winger

At this point I cannot argue with this.

The smartest decision would have been to sign Tavares and trade one of Marner or Nylander.
At any rate the way the leafs are doing things is not working.

The Leafs will regret trading one of those guys. And that’s the rub, cause to improve the team they need the space
