bc he's younger and offensive brain? I'm not gonna argue, either Reilly or Marner
    both are intriguing option

Sharangovich would cost a lot more than just Rielly.
    Extension or not.

I mean, he seems like he might be a good player. Sharangovich is a 22-year-old rookie who had 16 goals last season. Rielly had more points than him last season. Rielly is consistently a first pairing, all-star calibre defenceman capable of putting up 70 points. To say that he's not worth Sharangovich is insane to me. I know everybody loves their own prospects, but let's be realistic, if the Leafs offered that trade to New Jersey Kyle Dubas would be fired. I don't know if there's a fit with New Jersey (I don't see the Devils wanting to move young players and they don't have many appealing veteran options) but let's not pretend the Devils should be insulted in the offering of a top-pair defenceman for a 3rd line rookie centre.

Also, Ilya Mikheyev is not eligible for the expansion draft, so it's probably pretty unlikely the Kraken would select him.

    Not insulted at all.
Flattered someone would want our player.
But it’s not just a homer bias at all.
Sharangovich is a stud, and gets too little attention.

He is big, strong, mature kid, great skater with the best shot release on our team. And probably our best defensive forward. I think he has legit 30-40 goal potential. He is now captain of Belarus team at World Championship.

On defense, we have Ty Smith who can handle PP1. What we need are defensive d-men, not an offensive LHD.

So, makes no sense for Devils to trade Sharangovich. And makes less sense to add a guy like Rielly.

I don't think the trade makes sense, doesn't vibe with what either team wants.

But let's not pretend their value is equal, or that Sharangovich has more. We need to be reasonable here. Sharangovich has middle-6 potential maybe. If we go back to 2018-19 (last uninterrupted NHL regular season) there were 25 players with 35 goals or more. The year before 16, and the year before that there were 8. To suggest this guy is going to score that many goals (even once), it's very unlikely. That's almost a goal every other game, which is very difficult to do. For the Leafs to trade a bonafide 70 point NHL defenceman for that is nonsense.

Would you guys trade Nick Robertson for Damon Severson? That's basically what this trade is, a largely unproven young player with potential for a talented top-pairing defenceman. I get it. You like your guy, but let's take off the blinders here and be objective.

Yeah I think this doesn't make sense for either side. Sharangovich has top 6 potential. I know you didn't watch Devils games, but Sharanovich is super underrated. He had 16 goals and 30 points playing 1st line for half the season and 3rd line for half the season. He's going to be really good

Difference between Robertson and Sharangovich is that Sharangovich has proven something in the NHL while Robertson has not

First, "value" is not why teams trade.
Trade to fit the teams needs.

Second, The Nick Robertson example is just silly.
Sharangovich is now what Leafs hope Robertson will be.

Third, we have Ty Smith. Why would we want Rielly?
If I were try to trade top-6 centers to leafs fans, even if 'value' was there...they'd rightly say, take a hike.
