Another Marner trade

Description
S.Jones wants OUT of CBJ, so they'll surely move him. TOR needs help on RD and Jones's a top2 pair. They get help in net to spread the workload evenly. Foligno comes back on a team friendly deal (bad playoffs, but can still be an effective 3rd liner). Forbott as insurance as a 6-7 D-Man. Dermott is OUT via Expansion Draft. Hyman is a tough read in the sense of what he'll command. I think he accept 4M$ AAV for 3-4 years. Robertson and Abramov steps in the top 9 with fresh legs and speed. Leafs still with more than 4M$ of free cap space for Reilly's extension in 2022-2023.

But all of this is wrong. Can't wait to read why, in the comments :D

Hyman can easily get Anderson's contract... 5.5m x 7 years.

Every single one of those ufas are being underpaid. After Spezzas great season no way he signs for less then 2 mill and if you say he will stay to be on a cup contender then you are stupid toronto is a first round exit contender. Hyman can get 5-5.8 mil on the market don’t seem him taking a 1.8 mill discount. Foligno is still worth 3.5 mill with the leadership, physicality and net presence he brings. Forbort it will sign for close to 2 mill aswell, nice try though bud but no one is taking discounts for Toronto every realizes they are a bunch of choke artists now also no way after kerfoots playoff play that they take dermott over him. Dermott is not panning out, kerfoot was one of Toronto’s bring spots, Seattle will definitely take kerfoot or holl or Brodie whatever dman toronto leaves exposed

You're probably right!...but not with the Leafs, though. Some players are after the money, some are not. I'm sure ARI or BUF will offer him that money, but does he wants to play there? Depends on the players perspective and preference. I say he'll want some playoff first round disappointment, so he'll stick with Toronto tears of joy

I think Hyman gets more term.
If the Leafs are going to get a deal on him, they will make up for it with a 5-6 year contract.

The Columbus trade has promise, but it leaves a gapping hole in our forward group. It might break the deal, but I'd need Roslovic as well.

Hahaha you are correct! I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I still think that players WILL take discount for Toronto, because history tells us that they'll do, even though they're "choke artists" as you said tears of joy Remember one thing, though : with the flat cap for another 2 seasons, there wont be many 5-6-7 M$ AAV contracts. Hyman's great, but I strongly feel like he won't get offers for 5+M$ AAV this summer.

No shot you get roslovic. One of the few players in the league who wanted to be jackets before being traded there. You could maybe get domi but that’s a strong maybe.

Be realistic, now. Roslovic just had a breakout season, for them, and is the surprise of the Dubois-Laine trade. He's also a local dude on a great deal. CBJ isn't trading him anytime soon. Jones for Marner is a pretty close deal, in itself. I'm still scared of what Jones will ask, when summer 2022 comes...9M$ AAV? More? Because if they do this trade and Jones doesn't sign an (affordable) extension right away, then it's a HORRIBLE trade for them!

Fair enough. Thats where I see the deal breaking down. Leafs need an effective forward back as well. Losing Marner is a huge loss to the offense. They at least need an average top 6 contributer.
Maybe they go after Blake Coleman or something.

I'm with you here. Still, you can't add Domi to this exact trade and call it even. My point was to strenghten weak point in their line-up (RD and G). Korpisalo isn't godly, but I think Campbell-Korpisalo is a good tandem. Not great, but it doesn't have to be.

Ya fair enough. Thats where I think the deal breaks down. Jones is a good D-man, but he is overrated. I wouldn't even have him top 20 in the NHL. His fancies are pretty bad.

That's where they can use that 4.2M$ of cap space (5.1M$ if you send down Liljegren). It could net them a top6 on a short term deal (1-2 years). Coleman's a good option...maybe Hoffman or Tatar too? (yes, the latter's a horrible playoff performer, that's why I see him fit perfectly with the Leafs! tears of joy )

Right so adding domi who I would assume be half retained. And then adding someone in free agency would help fill the void left behind the tandem would be really good and the defense is even better.
