You're dreaming if Seattle willingly takes JVR at that contract

Two years left at $7 million per year. While it's no where near a steal it's not a negative value contract.

Of the 75 players who make between $6-$8 million per year, he ranked 21st in points per game last season. Again, not trying to say it's a great contract but it's not awful either.

He's also probably one of the better forwards available during the expansion draft. And it's totally believable they take something with lower risk like NAK or Braun. But it's not like JVR's contract is some untouchable contract like a Skinner or something.

It would not be shocking if Seattle received some type of compensation to select JVR. However, it would be foolish to think it would be much. I can't see it being more than another depth NHL player like Hagg or Aube Kubel or a 4th or 5th round pick. JVR brings quite a bit. Even if Seattle is not able to replicate the success of Vegas they could easily get a quality return for him by retaining half of his remaining contract.
