TOR
SEA
  1. Dermott, Travis
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2023 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
Kraken receive a draft pick to ensure they pick Travis Dermott instead of Justin Holl.
2.
TOR
  1. Eichel, Jack
Détails additionnels:
Toronto recieves Jack Eichel as he is a superstar centreman that would give the Maple Leafs an even better 1-2 punch in the middle. It is pretty clear that his time in Buffalo is coming to an end and with his value as low as it has ever been which is why the package going back isn't as crazy. Matthews and Eichel down the middle for Toronto would be scary for other teams especially since they were both locked up at reasonable prices for 4+ years each.
BUF
  1. Abramov, Mikhail
  2. Kerfoot, Alexander
  3. Marner, Mitchell
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2022 (TOR)
  5. Choix de 5e ronde en 2023 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
Toronto will need a major shake up if they lose. Matthews and Tavares are untouchable and based off of contract VALUE and what we have seen in the playoffs, Mitch Marner is the odd man out. They also recieve Alexander Kerfoot as an actual NHL replacement as well as one the Maple Leafs better forward prospects in Mikhail Abramov. The FRP is the cherry on top that will leave the Sabres no choice but to agree with this deal or risk Eichel sitting out which would tank his value and maybe even void the contract.

Conditions: BUF receives a 5th round pick in 2023 if Abramov does not play in at least 1 game for the Sabres in 2021-22.
3.
TOR
  1. Domi, Max (2 300 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Domi is a UFA this coming season and there is not a chance he resigns in Columbus after the Tortorella experiences and the state of the franchise. Domi would be the PERFECT fit in Toronto at 3C. He can score, play with grit, can thrive against other teams middle 6 and can play anywhere in the lineup. It would also be EPIC for this city embrace another Domi in town.
CBJ
  1. Brooks, Adam
  2. Engvall, Pierre
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
Columbus gets value back for yet another unhappy player that was going to leave in free agency. Engvall is the NHL player replacement who can play on the wing or centre in CBJ's bottom 6. Brooks is another valuable piece but will probably never get a chance with Toronto, definitely an NHL player.

Conditions: CBJ receives a 2023 2nd round pick from Toronto on the condition that Max Domi signs an extension with the Maple Leafs.
4.
TOR
  1. O'Connor, Logan
Détails additionnels:
O'Connor is an extremely underrated piece but with the way Colorado is looking, he probably doesn't get in the lineup anywhere anytime soon. He comes to Toronto with the ability to drive play as well as play some solid PK minutes.
COL
  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2023 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
Colorado yet again turning assets into value, O'Connor was an undrafted NCAA free agent who didn't even put up great numbers in college. Great find for the Avs but unfortunate that it may not work out for O'Connor in Colorado.

Buffalo isn’t just going to do Toronto a solid and take on $16 million in payroll for $10 million. Considering Buffalo is still giving up the best player Toronto would have to pay a higher price especially being in the division. Taking on Okposo would be a start, especially with such a lackluster return for the best player to wear a Sabres jersey in the last decade.

marner actually makes less than eichel in real cash for the next 3 years, they would owe him HALF what they'd owe eichel

assuming the leafs wait until the july 1st equivalent this year:

Marner Total $ = $24.8 million (if the leafs pay the 2021-22 SB then trade)
2021-22: $9 608 000 SB / $750 000 Salary
2022-23: $7 250 000 SB / $750 000 Salary
2023-24: $7 250 000 SB / $775 000 Salary (NMC)
2024-25: $7 250 000 SB / $775 000 Salary (NMC)
2025-2026: UFA

Eichel Total $ = $50 million
2021-22: $0 SB / $10 000 000 Salary
2022-23: $7 500 000 SB / 2 500 000 Salary (NMC)
2023-24: $0 SB / $10 000 000 Salary (NMC)
2024-25: $0 SB / $10 000 000 Salary (NMC)
2025-26: $0 SB / $10 000 000 Salary (NMC)

add in kerfoot and the sabres would only owe him $750K salary and a $1.95M signing bonus for two years. They'd be saving a lot of money and getting 2 players out of it lol

You’re right about LOC that’s why COL won’t trade him. He is a lock for the 4th line as soon as he is healthy (he started skating with the team last week), and being on a cheap deal is just as important.

add in the other players and really they are saving 10s of millions of dollars

Not that the real dollar figures don’t matter, but taking on more salary cap does not make the team better. It’s like this trade was thrown together without any consideration for what Buffalo actually needs or wants. Marner would be a very good top line right wing, but Kerfoot is not a number 2 center or even a second line player, and buffalo already has a fine third line Center with Casey Mittelstadt. Buffalo could use a young right shot defenseman.

And the idea that Jack could even consider sitting out is false at best. So long as he has been cleared to play he has to show up to camp and play. Anything else is breach of contract which is grounds for him being sued for more than the value of the deal. Not only can he not afford that, The organization would not simply let him walk for nothing by terminating his contract. If this were Toronto’s best offer my guess is somebody else beats it.

No dog in this fight, but marner has been better than eichel over their careers.

Buffalo isn't looking to contend in the near future. I doubt many teams would be willing to part ways with a 95-105 point scorer with term for a guy who is still only 24, another actual roster piece, a B level prospect and a FRP for Eichel. As I said before, his value isn't as high as it normally would be due to the stuff going on in the media, teams know he is unhappy. While he has made it clear that he loves the city of Buffalo and the fans, that does not mean he likes the team or management.

Also, Buffalo needs just about everything and I'm sure they would be more than ok with taking on Marner. Same with Kerfoot; he can play 3rd line centre OR on the 2nd line wing no problem.

The only team that could maybe match this offer is Montreal and it would be on of KK, Suzuki or Caufield, Danault, FRP and like Ylonen but I highly doubt MTL moves one of those 3. NYR would have to move Lafreniere, Buchneivich, Chytil and FRP which I also doubt they do. (these are obviously off the top of my head)

This upcoming draft is a defence heavy draft, no reason Buffalo cant go get a few more young pieces in it too especially with a near guaranteed top 3 pick.

Whenever the leafs don’t win a playoff series (haven’t in 17 years, possibly 18 after tonight) their fans blow things up. I’m all in on having the leafs lose

Spoken like someone who doesn’t know the situation in Buffalo at all. Contrary to popular opinion I don’t believe they can afford to blow it up and start over. Initiating a full rebuild this point after 10 years of not making the playoffs would signal to the fan base that the team isn’t worth watching for the next three or four years, and nobody will buy tickets to watch the team continue to lose. Seeing as the Pegulas only care about money I don’t think they’ll sign up for that.

I think the Sabres would be looking for a hockey trade a train for one of their disgruntled star players. They can’t look solely to the future with any trade involving Reinhart or Eichel. They have to look to improve the immediate roster, they at least have to take back payroll because no team can afford either player’s contract without sending money back.

Marner has been productive in his career, but he’s never been mentioned in the Hart trophy conversation. Eichel finished in the top 10 of Hart trophy voting in his last full healthy season. I don’t know if anyone sees Marner is the kind of game changing player that Jack Eichel is. If that were Toronto wouldn’t even consider trading him.
