You're giving Columbus his age 34, 35, 36 and 37 seasons...there's no denying that he had an excellent offensive season this year, but the likelihood of him being able to even come close to those numbers throughout the duration of that contract is extremely low. If I'm Columbus, I want picks/prospects or young NHLers. Not a 34 year old dman with a big cap him that will most likely be an albatross by the time the team is competitive again.
Is the value close? Yes, it's actually probably an overpay. Is it the right move for Columbus? No.
