How does Monahan get better offers than Kuzy on this site? He’s clearly a worse player …by a sizable margin. Just confused

Because they won't trade Monahan or because the valuation is wrong? My understanding is Monahan would be available, so it then becomes a question of what the package needs to look like. I stated that I wasn't sure in the description, so I was hoping to elicit actual feedback vs. a non-constructive "no".

This doesn’t make any sense for the Flames. They would want a better prospect coming back and no cap dump if they dealt him for futures, but they’re more likely to deal him for a top 6 C/RW to shake up the core and give a different look to the offense.

I would happily offer this package for Kuzy. I admitted in my description that I wasn't sure on Monahan valuation - in your opinion, this is an overpay?

Appreciate the feedback - I wasn't sure what the comp needed to be for Monahan. You really think they can flip him for a top 6 C/RW, though? That seems very optimistic to me.

I feel like it would be in a package. Also, a lot of people on this site think one down season where he was playing through a hip injury negates his value, when he’s established himself as a perennial 30 goal scorer when healthy, and is only 26 with two years left on a good contract. He still holds a lot of value.

I'm not one of them - I still think he's valuable and that he would be great on MIN. I just don't know what a realistic package would need to look like from MIN, and so I created this to try and get help in understanding that.

Kuznetsov has severe character issues, Monahan doesn't that's why.

Oh like when he did coke 3 years ago or him getting COVID LIKE 33.2m other people in America? “Severe character issues” is severely dramatic lol. Yeah I’ll take the guy who scores at a 70 point pace when healthy all day.

Sure ill give feedback
- Rask is a capdump, he was completely carried by his linemates this year and would/should not play in Calgary's top 6. Flames aren't rebuilding so they aren't interested in taking on a bad contract like Rask, the idea of moving Monahan would be to open up cap space and/or gain assets to go after someone like Eichel with Danault or someone as the backup plan.
- Khovanov is an ok prospect, he was kinda carried by Pelletier in the Q though, could be a decent 3rd liner though but lacks skating and defensive awareness. Gives me Adam Gaudette vibes just without the speed
- late 1st, at earliest 26th since they were a division winner
- 3rd is whatever

His last TWO seasons. His upwards progression stopped after 18-19, it's been in regression since then. The fact he's gone down the last two seasons combined with the fact he just had hip surgery drive down his value, let alone the fact Calgary wants to move him.

He was offered strait up for Dumba last off-season, and Guerin said no. Monahan's value has once again only gone down more since then.

That offer is more than what the Wild got back for Zucker. Which was a cap dump, a good prospect with top-six/top-four potential, and a high round pick.

That is exactly what Calgary is getting here plus an additional 3rd on top of it. In my opinion it's fair.

Zucker is a winger with a career high of 64 points. His 2nd highest points total (47) has been eclipsed by Monahan 6 times, including the covid shortened down season last year. If you’re using that trade as a comparable you’re adding significantly for position, more established and consistent higher levels of production, and age (Zucker was 28 when he was dealt, Monahan is 26).

Monahan just doesn’t move the needle since he’s so one dimensional, and dependent on a playmaker. If Calgary wants his cap hit back, they would be wise to take a package that includes a 1st. Acting like he’s somehow something more than he is after 2 years is pretty weird.

The bigger issue here is going after both Schmaltz and Monahan is redundant.

No disrespect at all , but getting covid was Kuznetsov fault. If I remember correctly, he was suspended with OVi for 1 game for not following covid protocols by the NHL

As human being, As adults, we all have life, & work place rules ; Character we go by.

Getting put in covid protocols 2x, & missing close to two months of team play including missing game 1 of Stanley cup playoffs due to being in covid protocols

At some point in life, & as adults if something happens to us, it's on we the person for our choices

He’s 26, it’s not like he’s past his prime. He’s perfectly capable of returning to form and if his recovery from hip surgery goes well (no reason to expect it not to with a full summer of rest) he’ll likely put up 30 goals next season as things return to normal. He also has more 30 goal seasons in the last 3 years than the entire Wild franchise so idk why y’all are so eager to turn your nose up at offensive talent that has been hard to come by for your team. If his one dimension is scoring goals and being good on the PP, surely that’s a good thing for a team that had a bottom third PP this year? You have enough defensive forwards to take care of any deficiencies he may have there, although that is an area he’s been tasked with improving in (especially under Sutter). And it’s not like being helped by a playmaker is gonna be an issue, I’m assuming you’d stick him between Zuccarello and Kaprizov and not between Sturm and Hartman lol

they got suspended for being in a hotel room with their teammates on a road trip. Tampa was allowed to watch the super bowl in a conference room at a hotel. Buffalo New Jersey and Vancouver had massive COVID outbreaks. Are you saying that getting COVID was all their fault? You realize he wasn’t the only player in the NHL that got COVID right ? Him being on the list 2x is hardly a character flaw. He caught a virus that hit 33.2m people in America. Blaming someone for getting COVID is just dumb. Like he had a choice of getting it or not. I actually think Dallas and Carolina had COVID outbreaks also. NHL picks and chooses who they want to stop play for… Washington had 4 players on the list and they didn’t get any breaks cut for them. Old people in nursing homes that died from COVID does that apply to your “if something happens to us, it's on we the person for our choices” Just a short sited way of looking at things. He easily could have got it from his wife or grocery store. You have no clue but you certainly judge him like you know lol. Must be great being perfect. By your logic all players on the 6-7 teams that had to shutdown are all irresponsible also right ? No disrespect

1. If you think that’s the only time he did coke you’re delusional lol, that’s just the only time he was caught because he was stupid enough to let it get recorded.

2. It doesn’t matter how many other people got covid? The fact remains that it’s not that difficult to follow the safety guidelines and stay healthy, but he blatantly disregarded the guidelines and got covid not once, but twice. That shows a lack of professionalism and no respect for his personal health, teammates, organization, job, etc.

3. Lehner went to rehab and was at least 2 years sober, assuming it’s over 3 years now but he hasn’t exactly updated (not that he has to). Can’t say the same for Kuznetsov.

Can’t say the same thing for Kuzy? Do you know if he’s sober or not? Are you just assuming that bc that’s the easy narrative? Seems intelligent but I expected that from the way this conversation started lol

Certain people like Kuznetsov that got covid not only once, but 2x times is on him. Stop attacking everyone because we are adult who knows especially when it's comes to one's job you follow it, & the rules that was set

Vancouver had 21 players test positive lol. Is that on all them? Canadiens have been on a massive lockdown how irresponsible of them. None of those guys are adults. Miller Hughes and Pettersson value is a 2nd pick bc they have severe character issues. Getting COVID in a country where that’s nearly impossible. They must have got it doing something shady lol. See I can make thoughtless claims also

As an adult shame on them not only not following the rules but delaying the entire playoffs for their own selfish needs to party

Lol Kuzy out here looking to get COVID. Going to the underground hot spots for COVID. Totally on him. Like how do you get COVID if everyone is following the easy protocols as adults ?

It's really weird how you are the one defending Kuznetsov on here. Wild for example that had covid outbreaks got it from another team, & nhl didn't act on it

So yes, not every team that got covid, covid outbreaks is on them

Kuznetsov himself, & his behaviors are on him. Him getting covid 2x is on him. Even was suspended by NHL earlier in season for not following covid protocols.

People that didn't wear mask, or follow protocols rules, & ended up getting covid is on them, & no one else's. How the heck does one end up getting covid 2x? Stop defending him, & his reckless behavior. Because of his own behavior, its caused him to miss 1st game of playoff, & was benched in playoffs

Can’t say the same thing for Kuzy? Do you know if he’s sober or not? Are you just assuming that bc that’s the easy narrative? Seems intelligent but I expected that from the way this conversation started lol

Doesn’t matter how many people got COVID? It’s a extremely contagious virus. Lol 33.2m people got it and you are talking like it’s uncommon and reckless to have gotten it lol. He could have got it from the grocery store or from his wife. You have no clue.

Just because other young multi-millionaires also got covid does not absolve Kuznetsov from responsibility for his actions. “What about him” is a stupid response when we’re discussing Kuzy’s decisions. He blatantly disregarded covid guidelines and was caught and suspended as a result, so it’s not like he was innocent and happened to get it at the store or whatever. He was not doing his best to ensure he didn’t get it, and wasn’t even following the simplest of rules to ensure the health and safety of himself and good teammates. And then he got it again later. He hasn’t earned the benefit of the doubt. We don’t know if Kuzy’s sober or not, but that incident certainly shows a pattern of decision making that supports this narrative regarding his recent decisions in showing a lack of growth/maturity. At the end of the day he’s an adult and a professional getting paid a lot of money to stay healthy and play a sport, and he couldn’t do the bare minimum to ensure that happened.
