Description
Since the sharks can't do a complete rebuild I think they are in a good position to improve their draft stock by weaponizing their short term cap space.

The exact draft choices aren't that important this is just an exercise of how to fit it under the cap.

The labanc trade might be hard to pull off, but he is still young and can be a 40-50 pt player. Plus Dorian said in his exit interview that he will be considering trading futures for help right now. Logan Brown seems to not be in their plans and the sharks need young centers so I think there is a fit. the 4.7 mil cap hit is a lot but I can't see how it would interfere with Ottawa signing any of their young stars given how much cap they have.

1. Good luck getting Driedger for that price
2. As if he wouldn't be starting over the tire fire that is Martin Jones
3. I think you're giving up on Labanc too early in the contract, but if that's the deal Ottawa takes it.
4. I do agree that it would be prudent for the Sharks to at least try and do a quick retool, since they have a 3-4 year window before buyouts or trades become more realistic and therefore a rebuild would start. It'll be interesting to see what they can pull off.

Tampa declines, And Driedger gets at least 2 x $3,500,000 not that low ball offer.

Like I said the actual picks aren't what's important, Tampa doesn't have any 2nds so it got bumped up to a 1st. To counter Driedger is 27 and has played 38 nhl games. We won't know until he signs but to make it fit he could be reploaced by a guy like hutton, halak, brossoit etc

Well Johnson has a full ntc and Tampa has to move somebody so they don't have a ton of leverage.

Your description means nothing to me, Bottom line JBB might move a 1st for Johnson but not Killorn. And you just stated that San jose will be rebuilding, So why would Killorn knowingly waive for a rebuilding team?

I don't care about the 1st, this team is to show how the sharks can take on bad contracts in exchange for draft capital and still fit it under the cap, I don't care about the specifics. Also Johnson is the one with the full NTC, whereas killorn has a 16 team no trade list so he is far more likely to get moved.

That pick goes to Tampa Bay for Killorn not the other way around

Oh gosh I bet OTT would make that very readily

I'd say they're badly mistaken to do so for sure

But yeah 100%

LeBlanc is just yet another middle6 winger, and the Sens are full of them. Your reasoning that LeBlanc is the help Ottawa is looking for is just wrong, they’re looking for a high end centre. Logan Browns value is down because of his injuries, but between LeBlanc and Brown, only one has a chance to be a high end centre, or neither do, either way, LeBlanc isn’t the guy.

I was big on Brown, but he has proven to be a total bust. Not worth anything more than a 4th let alone Labanc.

Look at LeBlanc’s contract specifics, the yearly breakdown, and tell me he’s a Dorion acquisition target.

Underselling pretty massively on Labanc.

And I agree with others that that’s too much to expect for a a Killorn cap dump. Johnson’s pretty much the only player on that team who would command a 1st, but I get you did what you did because they don’t have any 2nd rounders. And Driedger definitely isn’t signing that.

But otherwise it’s fine. I agree with the sentiment to get some assets back by taking on bad contracts. Stralman and Komarov are good candidates but if possible I’d also look at Ladd from NYI and maybe Eriksson and/or Roussel from VAN. Could get some decent pick for taking on a couple of those guys.

I'm not saying he's a target, but if that's the value we are getting for Brown (which I think with this is more than we are expecting) then we grab at it. If we have to flip something later so be it but it gives us a more valuable asset to deal with

Acquiring a different issue just doesn’t make sense, and getting rid of Logan Brown isn’t a priority, or even a necessity.

SJ wont and cant do a total rebuild. The season ticket base wont survive and the NMC contracts wont allow for it. You'd never find any home for most of these deals. That leaves moving bad contracts for other bad contracts while holding onto you high picks. Jones has to be bought out and a replacement found. NHL caliber goal tending would help the sharks tremendously. EK65 may have the most unmoveable deal in the league. Montreal seem to want Price and his 5 yrs out so maybe there is a match there? I view this as you may have to go all in with the current crew.
